Best of Newstead

The suburb that blends inner-city bustle with riverside leisure…

Newstead is one of Brisbane’s most scorching locations for delicious eateries, beverage houses and social play. Here’s a sample menu of the very best this upper Valley neighbour has to offer.

NEWSTEAD SOCIAL | 2 MASTERS STREET

One of the suburb’s newest outlets has fast become one of its most popular.  A place to eat, drink and be merry, Newstead Social offers a contemporary take on classic pub feeds – think oversized parmies and house burgers – whilst serving up daily specials to make sure no two nights are ever the same; Drag Bingo Wednesdays and Bottomless Weekend Brunches? Sign us up!

THE TRIFFID | 7 STRATTON STREET

Brisbane’s home of live music, The Triffid is not only where you go to see artists such as 360 and Rini, or commiserate on missing out on Taylor Swift tickets with “Taylor’s Version” release parties, but if you’re after beer garden vibes and chill aesthetics, this former commercial hanger is perfect for Friday night shenanigans or a cheeky Sunday sesh.

ROGUE BISTRO | 14 AUSTIN STREET

Moody vibes, exquisite food and an emphasis on the degustation experience, Rogue Bistro transports you to somewhere other-worldly once you step inside for their latest menu design.  This month it’s all about pan seared scallops, wild venison striploin, and the Mascarpone gelato, cinnamon myrtle custard and chocolate crip of their sticky date financier dessert.

SALT COFFEE ROASTERS | 50 COMMERCIAL ROAD

This laidback roaster-meets-cafe sits pretty on Commercial Road, offering up coffee for “the modern day explorer.” In fact, their coffee is so good they know you’ll want to take it home, so it’s a good thing they have their sumptuous roasts all bagged and ready to go; they’ll even tell you what their blends are best to drink with. Turns out you do learn something new every day!

YOLK | 76 SKYRING TERRACE

A breakfast must-do once you’ve strolled along the river walkways, finished your gym routine, or you just want a morning snack, Yolk is where you’ll find Brisbane’s best bacon & egg roll.  Alongside their perfectly fluffy hash browns and buttermilk chicken strips, you can treat yourself to freshly squeezed orange juice, on-point coffee and their daily plates of sweet goodies, like nutella cookies and chocolate brownies.

MAS & MIEK CERAMIC HOUSE | 11 BYRES STREET

Melding its industrial surroundings with its bespoke open plan, Mas & Miek Ceramic House is an all-in-one ceramic studio, shop and café. Alongside a large fully equipped pottery studio designed specifically for teaching is a thriving cafe and a gallery store exhibiting local ceramic artists. This studio is open to the public every day, all are welcome to come in, grab a coffee and soak up the creative atmosphere.

MRS BROWNS BAR AND KITCHEN | 32 COMMERCIAL ROAD

A Newstead staple, made for locals by the locals, Mrs Browns is all about elevated snacks (Korean-fried cauliflower and haloumi pancakes), substantial meals (you’ll be quickly devouring their slow roasted lamb shoulder), and, of course, an extensive selection of the best beer, wine and cocktails on hand.

So what are you waiting for? Get straight to exploring this trendy burb!
