They discovered that the world wasn’t flat, AND brought us halloumi...

We owe a lot to the Greeks, so we’ve decided to get our Greek geek on and bring you the best Greek restaurants in Brisbane! Wear your stretchy pants friends, you’re going to EAT.

Yamas Greek + Drink | West Village

Favouring the tastes of the Aegean Sea, Yamas Greek + Drink has an extensive wine and cocktail list transport your taste buds to the town of Thessaloniki. As the sister restaurant to the beloved Opa Bar + Mezze along the Brisbane River, the team behind Yamas is sure to impress. The menu has taken inspiration from the portside town with dishes like lamb souvla, chargrilled lobster live from the tank, and wagyu beef moussaka.

Lefkas taverna | WEST END

Three words: don’t eat breakfast. If you’re planning a visit to Lefkas, you’re going to be greeted by plates of grilled saganaki, stuffed roasted capsicum, moussaka, lemon potatoes, chargrilled mussels, chicken souvlaki and SO much more. It’s also BYO on Wednesdays and Thursdays, which means you won’t feel guilty ordering that second plate of chips with feta… Spanikopi-that!

NOSTIMO | SOUTH BRISBANE

The signature restaurant at Brisbane’s historic Greek Club, many a night has been made overlooking Musgrave Park at Nostimo. The menu is super authentic, like the lamb souvlaki and chargrilled octopus, with whopping banquets worthy of Poseidon available any day of the week.

Hellenika | Fortitude Valley

Perch yourself by Hellenika’s poolside bar and Nick’s your uncle. The Calile Hotel’s signature restaurant happens to be one of Brisbane’s best Greek eateries, with all the zucchini chips, veal dolmades and grilled saganaki you can physically handle (which is a heck of a lot if you’re actually Greek – thanks for the stomach training, Yia yia). While you’re at it, get your hands on an Aphrodite martini and drink in strong Greek beachside vibes.

Santorini | Newstead

Nestled on Kyabra Street, Santorini serves up all of your fave Greek plates with some very convincing murals ready to whisk you away to the Greek coastline! Bag yourself some fried saganaki, stuffed peppers and grilled octopus to begin before moving on to pork souvlaki, lamb cutlets and stuffed calamari. There are five classic Greek desserts for you to work your way through, too…

Greca | Howard Smith Wharves

A contemporary Greek taverna along the spectacular waterfront, powered by Mediterranean hospitality and a sharing menu inspired by the cultural joy of eating together, Greca is a dining mecca in every sense of the word! Share all your favourite dips and traditional mezedes, and fill your tum with larger plates including moussaka, charcoal swordfish and their famous slow-cooked lamb shoulder.

LITTLE GREEK TAVERNA | WEST END

If you haven’t dug into an oversized feta-stuffed mushroom or wrapped your mouth around a lamb yiros from Little Greek Taverna have you even eaten out in Brisbane? Known for its authentic flavours, generous portions and cheeky wait staff, Little Greek Taverna is a West End treasure. Add BYO wine and beer and you’ve got yourself a night to remember.

Opa Bar + Mezze | Eagle Street Pier

This flashy riverside spot features the requisite dips including taramasalata, fava, tyrokafteri (peppers and feta) and tzatziki for pairing with Greek village-style bread, while the seafood selection includes sand crab with capers, taramasalata and scampi caviar and the “Opa Smash” seafood platter laden with sand crab meat, raw honey bugs, raw sardines, cooked prawns, natural oysters and a lobster tail!

KAFE MEZE | Graceville

When you crave succulent, oven-roasted lamb or scrumptiously fresh marinated octopus, head to this family-owned taverna. Potentially a contender for ‘cutest walls ever’, the hand-painted murals of Santorini provide the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner for two (or twenty – they love to feed a crowd!). Bonus points for offering loads of vegetarian and vegan options, too!
