Brissie’s Best Martinis

Whether you're a classic kinda gal or looking for a zing and a twist, Brissie does this staple well.

The humble martini is often overlooked but let’s not forget the power that exudes from what started as a simple gin and vermouth concoction. But of course, now a martini is soo much more. We’ve rounded up the Brissie joints that do it well so you can keep on sippin…

KAZBA | FORTITUDE VALLEY

This city’s buzziest bar brings Tel Aviv’s nightlife to Brissie’s stage with Middle Eastern mezze and of course…cocktails. Their spin on the humble martini, complete with Tanqueray gin, Feels Rouse, rose water and vermouth ‘caviar’, is one we’ll put our hand up for any day.

ROTHWELL’S | CBD

Rothwell’s timeless cocktail list is one purists would be proud of. Poring over the list, you’ll find a fittingly-named ‘martini’ offering either gin or vodka, dry vermouth and lemon twist or olives. As they say, sometimes simple is best and that couldn’t be more true here.

CIELO ROOFTOP BAR | FORTITUDE VALLEY

If you’re after a true twist, you’ll find it at the Valley’s most popular rooftop. Their Lamington Martini made on Wild Flower Lamington Vodka, Chambord & pineapple juice is iconically Aussie.

STRATTON BAR AND KITCHEN | NEWSTEAD

Housed in a couple of WWII hangars, this relaxed joint is a go-to for locals for a reason. The citrusy explosion that is their King David martini, made on Manly citrus gin, Regal Rogue white vermouth and plum aperitif, doesn’t disappoint. Cheers!

BOOM BOOM ROOM | CBD

This Japanese street-food eatery spares nothing when it comes to their beverage menu complete with top-notch twists and the finest whiskey & sake imported from Japan. Before trying their infamous sake, however, be sure to get an Inochi martini to your gob Roku Gin, Lillet Blanc and Koyomi Shochu infused with apple & coriander seeds.

PURPLE PALM | WOOLLOONGABBA

Bringing California dreamin to Brissie’s ‘gabba, Purple Palm has a swoon-worthy array of martinis and twists that’s sure to make a gin lover blush. But if the menu doesn’t make you flush, their Absolute Scorcher sure will! It’s a lethal concoction of 78 Degrees Better Gin, vermouth, house-made chilli and garlic brine, chilli bitters, olive and yes, more chilli. It’s getting hot in here!

DR GIMLETTE | CBD

If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, Dr Gimlette’s Hell & Horseback should do the trick. With Ciroc Vodka, Kettel One Citroen, dry vermouth, preserved lemon and pepperberry that will put the ‘pep’ back in your step.

DONNA CHANG | CBD

Donna’s signature has a citrusy twist to add a bit of much-needed zing to life! Made on Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin, fig & mandarin-infused Amontillado, Luxardo Maraschino and orange bitters. This is definitely an ‘I’ll have what they’re drinking’ kinda sip.

MRS BROWN’S BAR & KITCHEN | NEWSTEAD

Don’t worry we haven’t forgotten about the holy espresso martini no list would be complete without it! At this local gem, you’re always guaranteed to try something new, but Mrs Brown’s espresso martini should remain a staple out of respect. Pair it with a plate of Korean fried cauliflower, and you’re set.

MADAME WU | CBD

For those who like to walk on the sweet side of life, you can’t go wrong with the Malteser espresso martini from Madame Wu. Described as creamy and sweet, it features white and dark chocolate liqueur, Tia Maria, and espresso. Sip your drink and enjoy fine dining with an Asian twist.
