Toss in a partner who also can’t decide what they want, and the dining struggle becomes very real. Luckily we’ve rounded up our favourite spots from around Brissy–covering dine in, takeaway, gourmand, and gourmet! Here’s hoping we’ve cured Brisbane’s hanger…

BURGERS
FRITZENBERGER | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

When in doubt, feel the fritz. With locations across Brissy, Fritzenberger serves up top-quality, affordable burgers, sides, and brews. Get comfy with a beer in your local eatery, or take your burgers home for a cheeky dinner on the couch. 

Our menu picks: buttermilk chicken burger + mac ‘n’ cheese balls. 

MAC FROM WAY BACK | WOOLLOONGABBA

First came the food truck, then came the dedicated mac ‘n’ cheese and burger eatery. With a cult-like following and knack for grilling up the perfect smashed burger, Mac from Way Back is the place to be when you’re after for a cheeky feed. 

Our menu picks: single smashie + bolognese loaded fries.

BEN’S BURGERS | FORTITUDE VALLEY

Everything that Ben’s Burgers serves up seems so simple, but packs such a punch! With three burgs, a handful of sides and an impressive range of shakes on offer, this Winn Lane beauty always has us coming back for more… 

Our menu picks: classic burger + veg chilli fries.

THAI
MONS THAI | CAMP HILL

There’s suburban Thai, then there’s Mons. In a league of its own, Mons has taken out just about every award in the book, and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. Swing by seven days a week for dine in or grab a couple of curries to go, and head straight to flavour town…

Our menu picks: red emperor yellow curry with macadamia, kipfler potatoes and baby corn + pad see ew with Wagyu beef.  

SAME SAME | FORTITUDE VALLEY

Undoubtedly Brisbane’s fanciest Thai joint, sAme sAme serves up wickedly fragrant South-East Asian flavours with flare. Be warned… Tables are hard to come by at this popular James St spot. 

Our menu picks: soft shell crab bao rolls + red curry of Angus beef cheek with crispy shallots, lime leaf, and potato and pork dumplings.

SIAM PAGODA | CLAYFIELD

A northside secret no more, this authentic Thai spot is serving up the takeaway you’ve been waiting all week for. The extenside menu covers everything from curries and stir fries to salads, entrees, and fresh seafood–all loaded with classic flavours and loads of love. Best part? Choose to dine in and enjoy that sweet B.Y.O. goodness.

PIZZA
JULIUS PIZZERIA | SOUTH BRISBANE 

Sibling to the much-adored Beccofino, Julius is Fish Lane’s answer to stunning Italian food. Walk in for pizzas and vino or get a couple of boxes to go, and be treated to the city’s finest. 

Our menu picks: salsiccia (tomato, chilli, mozzarella, provolone, pork and fennel sausage and rocket) + tartufo (mozzarella, smoked bacon, portobello mushrooms, stracchino and truffle paste).

COLLE ROSSO | RED HILL

This welcoming joint is like the Goldilocks of Italian eateries… not too heavy, not too light, and their pizzas are juuuust right! The menu offers something for everyone with loads of authentic Italian goodies, making sure no one leaves hungry.

Our menu picks: sarda (tomato, mozzarella, pork belly, caramelised red onion and pecorino) + calzone (folded with mozzarella, ham, mushrooms and Napoli sauce).

SUPERFLY PIZZA | WOOLLOONGABBA

Sometimes your day just calls for pizza and wine. This cosy laneway haunt lovingly serves up both, with some modern flavours that would leave purists scratching their heads (especially when they see us dip our crusts in ranch). Make a date with Superfly on Monday or Tuesday and score yourself a ‘za for just $15! 

Our menu picks: margherita (mozzarella and basil) + pumpkin (roast pumpkin, honey, rocket, thume, blue cheese and mozzarella).

YOKO | CBD

Taking inspiration from the izakaya dining scene, Yoko brings a taste of Japan to Howard Smith Wharves, with a modern twist. Start with delightful raw dishes before sharing plates and plates of flavourful mains, and wonder why you hadn’t ticked this off your hit list earlier. 

Our menu picks: chef’s selection of nigiri + teriyaki kingfish collar.

SUSHI EDO | VARIOUS LOCATIONS 

There really aren’t many greater joys in life than a sushi train. Chances are you have a Sushi Edo station near you, or you’ve heard someone (maybe us) rave about how good their bites are. 

Our menu picks: aburi salmon + ebi tempura nigiri. 

HONTO | FORTITUDE VALLEY 

hôntô’s menu reimagines Japanese cuisine with contemporary nuance and fresh Aussie ingredients. The moody space is tucked away in the Valley waiting to be explored, and we guarantee your first visit won’t be your last…

Our menu picks: lobster katsu sando + slow cooked beef short rib with soy and ginger glaze and karashi.

VIETNAMESE
HELLO PLEASE | SOUTH BRISBANE

Asian fusion with a hefty Vietnamese influence, Hello Please is serving up amazing eats, communal feasts, and plenty of good vibes. While takeaway and delivery are available, we recommend getting a bunch of dishes to share (or opt for the banquet) and soak up this Fish Lane hotspot. 

Our menu picks: prawn toast with black sesame mayo + confit duck pancakes. 

CAFE O-MAI | ANNERLEY

If it’s a traditional Vietnamese breaky or lunch that you’re after, it’s gotta be Cafe O’Mai. Specialising in home-style, tasty Viet fare, this southside spot is incredibly popular, and for good reason.

Our menu picks: pork bánh mì  + bún bò huế.

PHO HIEN VUONG PASTEUR | SUNNYBANK

Sunnybank is known for its plethora of authentic Asian eateries, and we’re definitely onto a good thing with Pho Hien Vuong Pasteur. Welcoming, generous, and unafraid to unleash on flavour, the folks at this pho house are serving up bowls of Brisbane’s best. 

Our menu picks: phở bò đặc biệt + bún thịt nướng.

FISH ‘N’ CHIPS
ONE FISH TWO FISH | KANGAROO POINT

It’s part fish ‘n’ chippery, part gourmet seafood restaurant, and that’s what we love about this wholesome suburban spot. Treat yourself to oysters and prosecco when you dine in, or simply skip by for takeaway and head home or to the glorious KP cliffs. 

Our menu picks: Quarter Flounder burger + grilled Tasmanian salmon with kale and wild rice salad.

THE FISHERY | MILTON 

Your local fish ‘n’ chip shack, but make it amazing. With a menu of family faves and a kitchen manned by the highly experienced chef Murray Dalton, The Fishery boxes up some incredible takeaway F ‘n’ Cs alongside fresh seafood (and advice on how to prepare it at home!). 

Our menu picks: calamari rings + potato scallops. 

RIVER QUAY FISH | SOUTH BANK

If the river views aren’t enough for you, toss in some gourmet seafood, a couple glasses of wine, and you’ll be left very satisfied. You can dine in, take away, or nab one of their famous picnic hampers to enjoy on South Bank’s lush green!

One of the city’s most opulent diners, Donna Chang dishes up modern Chinese cuisine that is so good you’ll want to make it your weekly date spot. 

Our menu picks: Sichuan spiced BBQ lamb ribs + Singapore-style chilli spanner crab with fried bao

CHU THE PHAT | SOUTH BRISBANE 

Sibling to famed CBD spot Madame Wu, Chu the Phat brings punchy modern Asian flavours south of the river. Whether it’s a gourmet takeaway or a vibrant dine in experience that you’re chasing, Chu The Phat will add the perfect amount of spice to your evening. 

Our menu picks: steamed duck buns + nanna Anna’s chilli chicken. 

KING TEA | PADDINGTON 

This Paddington staple has mastered the art of balancing traditional and contemporary flavours, with a strong Sichuan influence. We suggest booking a table with a group of your nearest and dearest, and loading up on share plates–with plenty of vego, vegan and GF options for all.
