Where to chow down on Brisbane’s best burgers

Mustard up your appetite and relish the staple that Brisbane does well: the humble burger.

Less shy than a sandwich and packed higher than any knife-and-fork affair, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and wave goodbye to those cravings. They say that burgers are the best hangover cure, so whether you’re in desperate need of a saviour or just looking to sink your teeth into something better than a Big Mac, we can certainly think of a few…

BEN’S BURGERS | FORTITUDE VALLEY

Now THIS is a burger. We’ve asked around, and a whopping number of our foodie friends chose Ben’s Burgers as their top burg in town. But hey, don’t listen to us… Let the juicy meat, fresh toppings and saucy goodness speak for themselves.

FRITZENBERGER | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Even after inhaling our weight in loaded fries, we find ourselves drooling over the beefier numbers at Fritzenberger. There’s a reason fries, burgers and brews take up 90% of the menu here (do yourself a favour and order one of their home brews – you won’t regret it).

SOUL BROTHERS | NUNDAH

Late night cravings for a burg can easily be solved by this burger joint which is open till 11pm every night – and you won’t be disappointed. Their simple yet mighty collection of burgers combined with their impeccable music selection will fast-track happiness right into your soul.

RED HOOK | CBD

Trust us when we say that you haven’t had a real cheeseburger until you’ve tried Red Hook’s Brooklyn cheeseburger. Stacked with a medium-rare beef patty, cheese, pickles, ketchup and special sauce, sometimes simple is better. This laneway New-Yorker is smack-bang in the middle of the action so you can keep the hangry symptoms at bay after work or while shopping at Queen Street Mall.

GETTA BURGER | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Getta stack of napkins, a couple of hours off work, and a taste of the super-sized bad boys at this popping spot. Just don’t expect to getta bite of your fries halfway through–two hands are needed, no exceptions.

LORD OF THE FRIES | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

It’s okay, we haven’t forgotten about the vegans out there. While a few burger joints will offer up a vegan or veggie burger, this fast food chain is all ethical with not an animal product in sight. They don’t skimp on the flavour, though – their faux spicy fried chicken burger, the ‘stinger’, filled with bacon and melted cheese, is sure to deceive your taste buds.

ZE PICKLE | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Let’s face it, lots of burger joints claim to be ‘different from the rest,’ but when their Kanye’s Mum burger features a pressed wagyu beef patty, maple bacon, fried cheese sticks, smoked jalapeños, ze fries, jack cheeze and truffle butter, you know Ze Pickle can walk the walk (even if you can’t walk afterwards).

REMY’S | PADDINGTON

If you just want a classic burg done right, Remy’s cheeseburger is your match made in burger heaven. Let that beef, cheddar, onion, pickle, mustard and ketchup combo lift your spirits into overdrive.

MISS DEMEANOUR | CBD

Tucked away on Rowes Lane, Miss Demeanour is serving cosy night out with friends. Their Big D burger will certainly draw your eyes first with wagyu beef, American cheese and spiced tempura chicken slapped onto a hefty bun smeared with jalapeno aioli and tomato relish. All of Miss Demeanour’s burgers will send your taste buds on a sensational flavour journey with the live music and warm mood lighting to match: comfort mode, activated.

5 BOROUGHS | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Burgers stacked taller than the Empire State Building have arrived straight from the boroughs of New York – and you’ll fall in love in a New York minute. If you’re looking for a taste of the big city or simply want to cut straight to the classics, you can’t go wrong with their cheeseburger. Just don’t forget fries with that.

MISS KAY’S | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

All you need to know about Miss Kay’s is that all the burgers live up to their names. When you see the Ludakrisp, think hella crispy fried chicken with house slaw, pickles, BBQ sauce and mayo. The Mac Daddy? You guessed it – mac ‘n’ cheese wedged between a beef patty, American cheese and piled high with fries.

HELLO HARRY | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

With venues around the country, Hello Harry has a reputation for its massive menu of burgers, piled high and hella juicy. Our local Hello Harry sits pretty in the UPSTAIRS at Toombul precinct, and our order is always the USA: beef, house-made onion rings, cheese, crispy bacon, American mustard, house-made tomato jam and mayo.

BROOKLYN DEPOT | SOUTH BANK

Still hungry? Fuhgeddaboutit! You’ll want a glass of milk, moist towelette and the foresight not to wear white before tackling the saucy and spicy concoction made up of a grass-fed beef patty, topped with beef chilli, cheese, onion rings, chilli relish and a lethal injection of hot sauce.

Sorry Kimmy K, but these are the buns we’re aspiring after.
