Luckily, this month is bringing plenty of tasty new venues and special events to make up for the shock of us being more than a third through 2021! Read on for our picks of how to spend your May days…

Iris Rooftop opening | Wednesday, May 5

The much-anticipated Iris rooftop bar is finally opening its doors! Boasting an incredible view of Brisbane City, a menu of food and drinks inspired by the Mediterranean coastline, and a glamorous setting with private booths and poolside spots to sip, Iris is set to be a must-visit spot for afternoon-to-evening drinks atop the new Hotel X on Brunswick Street. Mother’s Day | Sunday, May 9

Don’t forget to spoil Mum on Mother’s Day! Whether she needs a sleep in (we feel you, Ma) or would love a breaky with the fam, we’ve rounded up some delicious spots to celebrate Mum in style—check them out here! 

Husk Distillers Masterclass at The Walrus Club | Thursday, May 13

This one’s for the rum fiends! Hang out with Husk’s head distiller Quentin Brival to explore their range of local rums made in northern New South Wales. For $50, you’ll enjoy four tastings (including the newly launched Husk Botanic and the Husk “Bam Bam” spiced rum) as well as a signature cocktail on arrival and a selection of canapes! Australian Cocktail Month | Throughout May

All about supporting Australia’s bar community and celebrating their skills, May is Australia Cocktail Month! There’s 18 hand-picked bars participating in Brisbane including Alba Bar & Deli, new rooftop bar Iris and the iconic Savile Row, with specially curated signature cocktails available at each. A ticket to access the special menu will set you back just $20, with cocktails available for $14 as well as low-alcohol or alcohol-free options for $10 at all participating bars. vEEF x BrewDog dinner | Thursday, May 13

Plant-based pals would know vEEF, the beefy substitute to the real deal, from their burgers, but this event is a little more gourmet… Hosted by Alejandro Cancino, vEEF creator and the chef who saw Urbane (RIP) achieve three chefs hats, the vEEF x BrewDog dinner will see you dine on four fancy courses with beer pairings with a backdrop of live music for $95. Dine BNE City | Thursday, May 13-Sunday, May 30

Lunches for $25, deals on champagne and oysters, and multi-course menus for date night? Dine BNE City is all about spotlighting some of the food and drink venues across the CBD, with the program including Bar Safari (drink and snack pairings), Let’s Do Lunch ($25 or $35 lunch specials) and Supper Club (deals on dinners from two to ten courses)! There’s also special events including wine, beer and cocktail trails, as well as the beloved Sea to the City’s return on Sunday, May 30.

Crab & Cray Cray lunches at One Fish Two Fish | Fridays-Sundays throughout May

Shellfish-avoidant folks, look away! One Fish Two Fish is known for their funky themed special menus, and the return of their Crab & Cray Cray lunches is running on Fridays-Sundays for the rest of May only! For $69pp you’ll wrap your claws around five courses including a painted crayfish roll with saffron mayo and brown butter, a soba noodle salad with spanner crab, and a rich spanner crab bisque, with the option to enjoy bottomless rosé or beer with your lunch for $99!
