Comic fans are being treated this season (in addition to the new Spiderman movie and Hawkeye series, of course) with the opening of a superhero-themed bar and eatery, 1st Edition. Now open in the cute California Lane, this underground scene is perfectly suited to foodies and comic nerds looking to be surrounded by readable graphic panels and heroic sips.
As 1st Edition’s secret superpower, chef Steve Maiden is serving up an Asian-inspired menu influenced by Mexican, American, and French flavours, with highlights including include cheeseburger gyoza, spanner crab with burnt butter emulsion, cucumber and artichoke, and a red duck curry.
If you can’t get enough of all things comic and graphic, the signature cocktails are themed as well. Be warned: these potent cocktails pack a punch stronger than Hulk (DC fans, don’t come for me). Keeping the theatrics going, the cocktail lineup is both Insta-worthy and inspired by your favourite characters. They’ve got the Ninja Turtle Negroni with salami-infused Campari, or the Flash Meringue featuring limoncello, 78° Better gin, hazelnut liqueur, lemon curd, and meringue torched right on top of the glass!
