Sunnybank: Brisbane’s South-East Asian Dining Hotspot

Why spend hundreds of dollars on flights to Asia when you can experience authentic Asian culture and cuisine right in our very own backyard?

We put the call out to our followers for the best places to eat in this much-loved Southside ‘burb and let’s just say the list was extensive…

KINGSFOOD | MARKET SQUARE

There is nothing that quite says Sunnybank like Kingsfood. This iconic spot has gained a name for itself due to its enormous servings and a menu that offers 150 dishes from both Thailand and mainland China. We have it on good authority that the long beans with pork mince in belacan sauce are absolutely to die for.

LANDMARK RESTAURANT | SUNNYBANK PLAZA

Picture this: trolley upon trolley of mouthwatering dim sum, succulent duck pancakes, crispy salt and pepper squid, pillowy pork buns and all your other yum cha favourites. No wonder there’s always a hungry crowd eagerly lined up outside, ready to dig into a feast. They’ve also got Chinese BBQ, soups, fresh seafood and cantonese-style hotpots on the menu.

PARKLAND RESTAURANT | SUNNY PARK SHOPPING CENTRE

Walk into the enormous dining room and your greeted with fish tanks filled with mud crabs and lobsters, red and gold carpet, chandeliers and steaming dim sum trolleys being pushed throughout the crowds of people. The menu has all the hallmarks of Chinese cuisine like Mongolian lamb, salt and pepper lobster tails, crispy skin garlic chicken and of course the classics like roast meat and fresh seafood. It’s a no brainer.

KU-O | MARKET SQUARE

Dinning at Ku-O makes you feel like you have just stepped off the streets of Japan with it’s timber booths, wagasa (Japanese umbrellas) lined ceiling and tatami floor cushions. The menu includes all your Japanese favourites including: sashimi, katsu curry, udon, tempura, and of course ramen. They also have an extensive list of sake, so of course it would be rude not to have some!

LITTLE HONG KONG BBQ | MARKET SQUARE

As the name suggests, this Sunnybank hotspot is small, but don’t be fooled-what they lack in restaurant space, they more than make up for with their exceptional food. We are talking crispy pork belly, roast duck, barbecue pork and other delightful meaty morsels, plus a range of sides that are equally as delectable.

THE CUBE HOTPOT | SUNNYBANK PLAZA

Who can resist an all-you-can-eat hot pot? You’re going to want to bring a big appetite with a whopping 100 plus ingredients, like succulent wagyu beef, scallops, quail eggs and prawns to mix into their soup bases on offer. They also have 20 different sauce options to customise your hot pot to suit your taste buds. We love a customised meal!

I-THAI RESTAURANT | MARKET SQUARE

Get ready to transport your taste buds to Thailand with an array of classic dishes such as aromatic green curry, pho and of course everyone’s favourite, pad thai. This Sunnybank spot is sure to satisfy all your Thai food cravings, with massive portions perfect for sharing with your friends or family.

BURLINGTON BBQ | MARKET SQUARE

When peking ducks, crispy roast pork, and BBQ pork hang in the shop window, you know you’re about to tuck into some of the best roasted meats you’ve ever had. If you’re looking for a feast in the comfort of your own home, be sure to grab a variety of their dishes to takeaway. Hot top: while you’re waiting for your food, head next door to Yuen’s Market and grab some veggies to compliment the Burlington BBQ meats!

THE LITTLE CUBE | SUNNYBANK PLAZA

This little Sunnybank spot specialises in spicy Sichuan-inspired cantonese cuisine. They have a line up of tasty dishes such as braised chicken with mushrooms, braised pork belly in spicy bean paste and of course it would be silly not to finish off the feast with some deep fried ice cream.

There’s sunny times ahead, foodies! You can bank on that.
