Brisbane's Best of Barbie

She’s everything. We’re just living in her world.

If you haven’t heard, there’s a Barbie movie on the horizon – it’s opening across Australia this Thursday, July 20 – and we are now, in fact, living in a Barbie world.

In Greta Gerwig’s hot(pink)ly anticipated comedy, Barbie (Margot Robbie) lives in a perfect dream world, where the only thing she has to worry about is, well, nothing.  That is until she finds herself experiencing an existential crisis of sorts, and she starts to question what being a Barbie girl in a Barbie world is truly all about.

A movie unlike any other – this is written by the same people that gave you Lady Bird and Marriage Story, FYI – Barbie is sure to get everyone talking, from its fabulous set and costume design to its societal commentary on women’s autonomy and, of course, Ryan Gosling’s hilarious performance as Ken; you have to see it to believe it!

But it’s not just the movie that will have you seeing pink, as Brisbane has embraced all things plastic fantastic, as it celebrates the film that’s really a cultural phenomenon at this point.  Across the city you’ll have plenty of opportunities to get into a Barbie state of mind, starting with the Barbie Dreamburger from Grill’d; and yes, the bun is pink.

With a grass-fed Australian beef pattie served in a pink panini bun, complete with tasty cheese, charred pineapple, avocado, tomato, cos lettuce, Spanish onion, tomato sauce and, of course, pink mayo, you’ll be wondering why you haven’t eaten like a Barbie girl (or boy) before.  This will only be running for a limited time, so get in before it’s too late – especially because we’re hearing the demand is more intense than Ken’s ab workout routine!

If the Grill’d Dreamburger isn’t enough to satisfy your appetite, perhaps the Stanley Street Plaza’s Barbie Brunch will do the trick, with the ultimate fan event for Barbie enthusiasts across the city.  With Barbie-inspired cocktails, Aqua sing-a-longs, Barbie trivia and a grammable media wall, you best Skip-per your way to this one-of-a-kind VIP event set across the weekend of September 23-24.

For anyone wanting a different slice of Kenergy to celebrate the film, Frida’s Sip n’ Paint in Paddington is going to make sure that every Barbie is an artist with their special Paint Your Mate Barbie Edition event on Thursday, July 20.  You’ll be able to recreate the iconic ‘This Barbie is…’ promotional imagery with the help of Frida’s guide, so bring your best Barbie or Ken along with you to immortalise this special occasion.

And, of course, there’s Barbie the movie, which will be screening all across Brisbane at every major cinema chain from Thursday, July 20.  The world will now be split into two divisions – Before Barbie and After Barbie – so make sure you secure your ticket to remember where you were when you experienced the phenomenon yourself.
