Brisbane's Best Banh Mi

Nothing gets us frothing quite like fusion food, and banh mi’s are one of our favourites.

Soft baguettes, crunchy pickled veg, spicy chilli and melt-in-your-mouth pork – it’s the perfect blend of French and Vietnamese, and we’ll happily smash one down any time of day. We’ve found the best of the best around Brisbane, just keep it to yourselves.

Kiki Kiosk | Fish Lane, South Brisbane

Hidden amongst the jungle of Fish Lane Town Square lies the perfect stop for your morning coffee and banh mi brekky. These babies sell out fast, so make sure you hit the kiosk early to get your hands on one!

Banh Mi Factory | Newstead & Zillmere

If you live and breathe banh mi, have you ever thought about serving these bad boys up at your next birthday? Because now we know that’s a thing, you can best believe we’re having a banh mi bash – and only Banh Mi Factory’s top-notch rolls will do.

Café O Mai | Annerley

If you’re looking for a banh mi fix on a Sunday, one of the few (and best) spots open is Cafe O Mai! Say ohhhhh my to their veg-friendly Vietnamese baguettes, stuffed with soy-and-lemongrass-marinated tofu, radish, carrot, cucumber, coriander and vegan mayo. No one has to miss out.

The Fat Carrot | West End

While a meat-free banh mi may seem sacrilegious, we’ve heard The Fat Carrot’s vegan duck roll slaps. In other words, we may or may not slap you silly if you don’t drop by the juice bar along Boundary Street for a bite.

Vietnamese Banh Mi | Kelvin Grove Markets

Clear your schedule- you’ve got a date with this hidden gem on Saturdays. We dream all week long of the banh mi sold only at the Kelvin Grove Markets – the bread is just the right amount of soft and crusty, and the roast pork has the perfect crackling.

Porkees | Fortitude Valley, Milton & West End

Located in not one, not two, but three spots around Brisbane, you are covered for options. Their baguettes are prepared fresh daily with secret home-made sauces and overflowing with pickled carrots, cucumber and spring onion. And when asked if you want chilli, always say yes!

Minh Tan Bakery | Inala

You’re not going to get table service or mineral water from Minh Tan Bakery, but you are going to get VERY cheap, VERY tasty banh mi. Choose from three kinds of pork, chicken or all of the above if you’re feeling extra – it’s worth the trek to Inala.

Kim Thanh Hot Bread | West End

West End institution, cure of hangovers and giver of life, Kim Thanh is as West End as Musgrave Park. Hot and fresh from the bakery kitchen, their baguettes are baked onsite and their filling is on point.

Scotts Road Takeaway | Darra

With a considerable Vietnamese population, it’s no wonder that Darra has some of our favourite Vietnamese haunts. If you’re looking to get some pork on your fork, Scotts Road Deli is your dream come true with everything from classic pork rolls to roast pork and gravy.

That’s how we roll!
