Make ‘em Laugh: Best of the Brisbane Comedy Festival

Fancy a chuckle? This May, the Brisbane Comedy Festival has your giggles at the ready as the Brisbane Powerhouse houses some of the country’s finest comedians for a month of hysterics.

Whether it’s risque humour, wholesome reflection, or the most macabre of comedy, you’ll find your funny bone tickled down by the river.

Two Man Tarantino (17th – 28th May)

Set in the last video store in Australia on its last ever night, Two Man Tarantino sees a shopkeeper and mysterious customer get caught in a deadly game that has them scrambling to recreate every single Quentin Tarantino film, using only the items left around them. Grab a gimp (babysitter) and get your tickets, because Two Man Tarantino is a hilarious and offensive bloody romp with a Tarantino twist that will stay with you for a very, very long time!

Geraldine Hickey | Of Course We’ve Got Horses (19th – 21st May)

The 2021 Melbourne Comedy Festival Award winner has a new show filled with stories about acknowledging and enjoying newfound privileges, like getting married and being able to buy a nice camera to take photos of birds. Geraldine is “very good at telling funny stories”, as she so states. It’s why she’s won awards and can afford nice cameras – and horses.

Katrina | The Real Wog Wife of Brisbane (20th – 21st May)

The ‘who’s who’ of Brisbane will be treated to a theatrical spectacle of stand-up comedy, cabaret and couture designs. The self-proclaimed satirical queen of TikTok will have you laughing out loud as she pokes fun at popular reality stars, whilst claiming her space as a young un-orthodox Greek woman growing up in Brisbane. Expect drinks, drama and debauchery, and don’t forget to come dressed to impress in your best animal print!

Reuben Kaye | Live and Intimidating (25th – 28th May)

The obscenely intelligent, rib-crackingly funny Reuben Kaye brings an explosion of high camp and filthy humour. Backed by Shanon Whitelock on piano, this international cabaret star and award-winning cry for help is what happens when you tell your children they can be anything.

Kirsty Webeck | A Bit of Fun (25th – 28th May)

Kirsty Webeck is up for a bit of fun and reckons you could benefit from some, too.  She’s made self-improvements, been the victim of a subpar prank, learned loads about sperm whales, and now she’s bursting to share it all. Notorious for her feel-good outlook, Webeck’s crafted another hilarious upbeat hour, so take a break from the doom scrolling, drag yourself away from Netflix and join your new bestie for a bit of fun.

Aboriginal Comedy Allstars (26th – 28th May)

With sell-out seasons and five-star reviews throughout Australia and the UK, our premier First Nations Allstars bring huge belly laughs from the heart of the wide brown land. Starring Sean Choolburra, Kevin Kropinyeri, Andy Saunders, Jay Wymarra and 2022 Deadly Funny Winner Janty Blair.

Emma Zammit | Smelt and Dealt (27th – 28th May)

Having hit the milestone age of 40, comedian Emma Zammit is embracing reflection, and is only now realising that being hopelessly gullible for most of her time on this earth has led her to believe every white lie ever told to her. This show is about lies, accountability, and even more lies. If you’re the kind of person who is still afraid to swallow gum, thinks apple seeds are poisonous, and would never dare to turn a car’s interior light on at night, then this is the show for you.
