The sun is out, the birds are chirping, and we’re ready to eat.
From modern Australian degustations with heavy Nordic influences to fresh Italian menus and riverside pop-ups celebrating rosé, there are some exciting new bites to conquer this spring!
ELSKA | WILSTON
Every season the team at Elska craft a hyper-seasonal 12-course degustation menu based on what is freshest and of the highest quality at the time…
Their spring menu is no different, taking seasonal, native produce and adding that signature Elska touch–seen in dishes like Noosa scallops with green ant, baby black lip abalone with burnt verde, and emu with strawberry.
CUSTOMS HOUSE SEASONAL POP-UP | CBD
It’s baaack!
Customs House’s pop-up bar is bringing back the iconic Moët Rosé Garden from Friday, October 2! Look out to the river and sip pretty on Moët Rosé Impérial NV, Veuve Clicquot, and Rameau d’Or, as well as rosé sangria and a Chandon Cosmopolitan cocktail based on Chandon rosé. When it comes to snacking, get around crispy pumpkin flowers stuffed with goat’s cheese and sundried tomatoes, steamed duck buns, and THOSE Moreton Bay bug croissants.
ONE FISH TWO FISH | KANGAROO POINT
While oysters and prosecco go down a treat every day of the year at this fishy spot, their new menu is just screaming spring.
A fresh entree that we simply can’t get enough of is the Sunshine and Sons gin-cured yellowtail kingfish served with white fungi, finger lime caviar and coconut, followed by a beautiful fillet of steamed goldband snapper with kipfler potatoes, fennel, cherry tomatoes, baby kiss peppers, olives, caperberries, and chili.
TODD & PUP | MOOROOKA
One of our favourite suburban spots for an easy breaky or a satisfying lunch, Todd & Pup has just dropped a spring menu that has tails well and truly wagging. Our pick of the b(r)unch is the truffle goats cheese, garlic buttered mushrooms, lemon thyme honey, fried enoki, and poached eggs on sourdough.
And don’t worry, southsiders… The fried chicken Benedict is still on the menu!
LA LUNE WINE CO | SOUTH BRISBANE
Known for their majestic wine list and frequently evolving menus, La Lune is adding a touch of gourmet to our spring. Their September menu is light but full of flavour, with standouts like white anchovies with bronze fennel and smoked cucumber, and Jerusalem artichoke risotto with brassica and pecorino.
Pro tip: be sure to order a side of kipfler potatoes with blue cheese and pancetta.
THE TERRACE AT EMPORIUM HOTEL | SOUTH BANK
The Terrace reopened its sky-high doors last month, with a talented new head chef bringing an exciting new menu. Chef Benny Lam’s bold flavours speak for themselves on this menu, with yummies like soft shell crab tacos, grilled octopus with spicy Asian chimichurri and green apple, and a guava mango pudding with passion fruit granita and sesame snap tuile.
ALCHEMY RESTAURANT AND BAR | CBD
We’re big fans of Alchemy’s new menu that launched last month, shifting the riverfront spot from fine dining to approachable Italian. The spaghetti al nero di seppia (squid ink spaghetti, octopus, calamari, garlic, olive oil, parsley, white wine, and grated bottarga) is a perfect spring treat, followed by the creme caramel with orange and amaretto.
ZA ZA TA | FORTITUDE VALLEY
Back in August, Za Za Ta debuted a menu (and a new ethos to match) that was entirely vego, and practically made for these months between winter and summer.
The perfect balance between old-world spice and new-world flavours, highlights of the new menu include charcoal Jap eggplants with pickled walnuts, and cauliflower shawarma, smoked labneh, pickled fennel, and quince.
