Paying Homage to Home at Spicers Hidden Vale

A tribute to all things lovely and local, the lunch menu at Homage Restaurant, part of Spicers Hidden Vale, is the perfect way to explore the wonderful produce on offer in the Great South East.

A mere hour’s drive away from Brisbane in Grandchester, this homestead style property hosts a hatted restaurant, boasting a menu of unusual but exciting dishes – Homage Restaurant. If you’ve ever wanted to eat both animals off our own coat of arms during the same meal, now is your chance!

Yup, we bet you’re intrigued. Lunch is an unashamedly Australian affair and can be eaten a’la carte or in two and three course style. Entrees include pumpkin slow roasted in vegemite with macadamia nuts, Homage farm pork with orchard fruit smoked trout with cabbage and nasturtium, or rabbit with carrot and pork crackling.

The more adventurous should order emu with cured yolk, emu apples and native pepper, which is served on a piece of saltbush that arrives at your table still alight for maximum smoky effect!

The mains are equally as enticing. 120 day grain fed siroin, wild shot venison with fermented garlic, lamb with olive and white chocolate, and pasture raised hen with cauliflower and smoked cheddar. The super tender kangaroo tail with pear, chilli and lillipilly berries is a clear standout here, while the Murray cod in macadamia milk with bush lemon is perfect for those wanting a lighter option.

If you have room for dessert (of course you do, there’s a separate stomach for that!), then you won’t be disappointed. Passionfruit with roses and goats fare with milk are sure to intrigue. But the clear favourite here is the beetroot with chocolate and the lemon meringue. Served as a chocolate beetroot on mousse and soil, give it the old ‘creme brulee spoon tap’ to help an overflowing river of Barbie-pink sauce escape.

The lemon meringue doesn’t have the same element of combat to it, but this is one perfectly sweet tart that will leave your mouth tingling with delight. Homage is alos open for breakfast, and offer a spectacular 8 course tasting menu for those who want to stay a while.

For something lighter, try the Homestead menu from 12-3pm including the brioche pork burger, charred beef flatbread, chacuterie board or the pasture fed chicken and spiced yogurt warm vegetable salad.

Looking for a gift for the person who has everything? Spicers Hidden Vale also offers a country homestead gourmet getaway for $639 per night, with luxury overnight accommodation, gourmet breakfast, wine and cheese plate and the tasting menu for two.

Homage at Spicers Hidden Vale is the perfect destination to add to the list of ‘weekend getaways with a difference’. Whether it’s for a special occasion or just an excuse to escape the city, pay homage to the amazing produce of the Lockyer Valley and its surrounds at Homage.
