Dishing up everything from gourmet snags to uniquely Australian margaritas, venues across Brisbane are celebrating the long weekend with foodie specials and events for everyone!
El Camino Cantina | Bowen Hills
This iconic party spot has overhauled its Tex-Mex menu with some Aussie additions, including a burger burrito filled with beetroot and pineapple and served with salt and vinegar hot chips, a meat pie-inspired taco with caramelised onions and tomato sauce, and the slightly patriotic, entirely nostalgic fairy bread margarita. Bookings can be made here.
La Macelleria Gelateria | Various Locations
Brisbane, we’re asking you to trust us on this one: bacon and egg gelato.
The egg-based gelato with maple syrup and candied bacon pieces is available at all La Macelleria stores (except King Street) on Australia Day only, and we strongly recommend giving it a try before it’s all gone.
The Charming Squire | South Brisbane
Combine an Australia Day feast with bushfire fundraising, and you’ve got the perfect Sunday lunch! Head to The Charming Squire for their shared fundraising lunch featuring wood-fired sweet corn cobs with puffed quinoa and parmesan, jerk chicken with mango chilli sauce, porchetta with salt and vinegar cabbage, smoked sour cream and apple and current relish, and more! Tickets are $49 and available here.
The Jetty South Bank | South Bank
The Jetty South Bank is already the place to be for a Sunday sesh, and things are going to the next level this Australia Day. Enjoy a $5 sausage sizzle accompanied by live music and fireworks or lounge on the lawn with a Sunday social picnic hamper, overflowing with goodies like spiced sweetcorn fritters with chimichurri, lime and pepper crispy calamari, lamb kofte with paprika yoghurt and Moreton Bay bug rolls.
Cloudland | Fortitude Valley
Cloudland’s Aussie Vintopia wine tasting on Friday gives wine lovers the chance to sip on nine red, white and sparkling wines from Australian producers. Learn everything there is to know about some of the best regions in the world (we’re a bit biased), and how the Aussie climate and landscape shapes winemaking.
One Fish Two Fish | Kangaroo Point
For just $59, slurp up six unique and delicious courses of fresh Pacific oysters. Oyster Frenzy at One Fish Two Fish is booking out quickly, so secure your spot here.
The Terrace at Emporium Hotel | South Bank
Go bougie on Sunday with a pop-up station pouring The Terrace’s top-five Aussie gins, a lamb station with lamb shoulder in a pita pocket and roast lamb leg in sourdough baguettes with cabbage slaw and mint sauce. There’ll be live music from 2pm, a DJ from 6pm, and fireworks at 7:30. Did we mention the pavlova station?
Stokehouse Q | South Bank
Aussie Day snags, but make them posh AF. Stokehouse Q’s executive chef Ollie Hansford is already a certified true blue legend after announcing his posh sausages, available on the Australia Day holiday. The three snags on offer include lobster and scallop sausage with pimped tartare, chicken, rosemary and truffle sausages with sticky shallots, and wagyu beef sausages with caviar dressing.
Munich Brauhaus, Beerhaüs and The Bavarian | Various Locations
Heroing Australian-made beers all weekend long, The Bavarian is dishing up some epic Aussie eats, including the Australia Day loaded schnitzel, topped with bacon, fried egg and Australian cheddar cheese, and a giant Bunnings-inspired hot dog. At Munich Brauhaus, expect to see inflatable beer steins floating around as well as a DIY zinc booth, before Monday’s recovery session with live acoustic music for those who may have had one too many steins. Bookings can be made here.
Byblos | Hamilton
Spice up your Australia Day with lavish Mediterranean eats, cocktails and live music courtesy of Portside’s authentic Lebanese spot, Byblos. Gather the squad and book your table here.
However you’re planning to spend your long weekend, we only hope it’s delicious.
