We have foodie news revolving around brews, booze and food, so listen up, Brissy.
Ciao Papi, Howard Smith Wharves’ Italian pop-up at the site formerly occupied by ARC’s wine bar, is a pop-up no more! Today it was announced that the chic eatery with Santorini vibes is sticking around for good, open for lunch and dinner seven days from this week. The new menu features casual Italian bites like rigatoni with slow-braised ragu, whole grilled john dory with lemon and olive oil, and desserts like fresh figs with honeycomb and local cream. Even better? This particular Papi is only closed on Christmas Day in the festive season, so there’s plenty of time to visit over the summer break.
In more Italian foodie news, we’re happy to announce that CJ’s Pasta will now be dishing up brunch and lunch! From 8am to 3pm Monday through Saturday, this homey spot will be serving fresh juices, coffee and a diverse menu highlighted by Italian classics and Australian favourites, with the pasta club (and yes, they’re still BYO) running as usual from 5pm.
Things are heating up at Beerhaüs Bowen Hills with the arrival of some fresh new menu items, sour beers and summer cocktails to celebrate summer sessions. Keeping things interesting (and delicious) until December 31, summer sessions at Beerhaüs will see your favourite parts of summer delivered with a German twist, like four stein-sized share cocktails including the Chambord rosé sangria or Lynchburg Lemonade. With the help of South Australia’s Pirate Brewery, four unique and tangy sour beers have been added to Beerhaüs’ already extensive roster, and new eats include crispy pork bao buns with cabbage slaw, sweet BBQ sauce and spring onions, and a hummus platter with grilled pita, carrot, cucumber and pickled onions.
The new UPSTAIRS dining playground at Toombul Shopping Centre has been up and running for a little while now, keeping our northside tummies happy and full. We didn’t think things could get any better, but the introduction of a brand new Thai hotspot at UPSTAIRS has us drooling with excitement! Phat Elephant has made a name for itself with its impressive city location and banging flavours, and is set to open up at UPSTAIRS in early 2020. You can expect to see popular menu items at the new location like pineapple fried rice, braised lamb shank massaman curry and crispy king prawns with tamarind sauce.
Cheese and wine. Okay great, we still have your attention. Botero House is holding an unmissable foodie event on Friday, December 6 with masses of the good stuff. The cheese and wine degustation evening offers two unique options – an eight-course cheesy feast with matched wines, or an expertly curated local and international cheese board with paired vino. Our heads are spinning thinking about that risotto cacio e pepe with parmigiano reggiano, cured yolk and black truffle… Things don’t get much cheddar than this, so book your spot here.
