Ashgrove’s beloved Wine & Larder Bistro is back!

With a new sommelier at the helm, there’s no need to wine.

After a brief hiatus, Ashgrove’s beloved Wine & Larder Bistro has returned, led by expert sommelier, Mark Whitaker.

Wine & Larder’s Parisian style atmosphere, al-fresco dining and welcoming space has charmed locals since its opening in 2017, and Whitaker is dedicated to maintaining this experience (in addition to using his years of training to help customers find new and exciting sips).

“One of my favourite things to do is ask people what they usually like to drink,” Whitaker says. “Based on their answer, you can open them up to a new variety or region. After all, wine is primarily about fun and experimentation.”

Passionate about destigmatising wine as elitist, Whitaker plans to continue his series of wine education events, Grape Sense, and wants to host special one-off wine dinners in collaboration with the hottest chefs in Brisbane.

Whitaker himself has worked for establishments such as Gauge, The Wolfe, GOMA Restaurant; and most recently was a co-owner of Newstead pop-up wine bar, After Dark. So, he is no stranger to fine dining or Wine & Larder’s Euro-inspired bistro menu.

The beverage list includes over 50 handpicked wines including traditional wines, new vintages, Australian and international, (many from Beaujolais – Whitaker’s obsession) as well as local craft beer on tap.

Wine connoisseur or not, there’s a tipple or two for everyone.
