Where to celebrate Bastille Day in Brisbane

Don a beret and pull out your best striped shirt, we’re celebrating all things France this Bastille Day!

Like all good commemorations, Bastille Day will be celebrated with a whole lot of feasting on Wednesday, July 14. We’ve rounded up Brisbane’s best French restaurants that are getting around this special day. Bon appétit

BISOU BISOU | FORTITUDE VALLEY

New kids on the block (bonjour, baby!), Bisou Bisou is kicking off their first Bastille Day with a bang, offering an exclusive four-course feast. Curated by head chef Anthony Donaldson, the menu includes indulgent French classics such as poached salmon with crayfish, slow-cooked rotisserie lamb and a mille feuille dessert, all for just $80pp. For a magnifique dining experience, add paired wines for an extra $40pp! Head here or call 3131 8900 to book.

LA BELLE VIE | BARDON

Live music, a can can performance and a three-course French affair with paired wines? Sounds très bon to us! Stuff yourself silly with traditional dishes like foie gras on brioche toast, beef bourguignon in montgolfière and a grandma tarte Tatin with vanilla ice cream. Sittings are available for lunch for $130pp and dinner for $190pp. To book, head here

King Street Bakery | Bowen Hills

Nothing says French quite like croissants, and you can nab a free one at the lauded King Street Bakery all July! Simply shell out for a medium or large bev (to dip your croissant in, of course) and one of their golden, flaky delights is all yours! Better get in early, as there’s only 100 available every Monday-Saturday.

C’est Bon | Woolloongabba

French celebrations call for multiple courses, so C’est Bon is offering up two- or three-course lunch ($38 or $45 respectively), as well as a five-course dinner with matched wines for $150pp. Highlights on the menu include choux filled with camel cheese, sweetcorn brûlée with scampi and caviar, and classic madeleines to finish. Whether you’re kicking on from lunch or looking for an excuse for a champagne, their rooftop bar, Ooh La La, will be open for the occasion from 4 pm! Learn more here.

BOUCHER | GRACEVILLE

Tucked in the ‘burbs of Graceville, this cosy bistro is dishing up a six-course degustation (ooh la la!) set to tantalise the taste buds with an array of French flavours. For just $145, work your way through dishes like shucked oysters and truffled egg, poached Moreton Bay bug tail, roast eye fillet with walnut and cèpe stuffing and a croquembouche to top it all off. Feeling bougie? Add matching wines for $185pp total. Book in here

LA CACHE À VÍN | SPRING HILL

Offering a sumptuous four-course traditional meal, it’s no wonder La Cache à Vín’s annual Bastille Day event is so popular! And while dinner is booked out, their lunch menu includes yummies like grilled Japanese scallops, duck breast, risotto with sand crab and black truffle, and your choice of a tarte Tatin or fromage…our stomachs are already rumbling! Call 3924 0501 to snap up those last spots for just $120pp.

LIBERTINE | PETRIE TERRACE

A six-dish French banquet? Oui, please! Start with pan-seared Tasmanian salmon with lentils du puy and Victorian half-shell scallop before pan-roasted duck breast, slow-braised Wagyu and classic cream puffs to finish (we’re wearing our stretchy pants for this one!). Bookings can be made here for just $69pp, with drinks additional.

LOBBY BAR | FORTITUDE VALLEY

Sacré bleu! Bastille Day marks the start of a very special edition of the Lobby Bar’s Menu Swap series. From 12pm to 9pm on July 14-18, the usual lunch and dinner menu will be swapped out for a mouthwatering range of traditional French delights, complete with ratatouille and soufflé au fromage by real-deal Frenchy (and head chef Andy Gunn’s wife) Amelie. Explore the French favourites at your own pace with expert wine pairings from the bar team. Book your table here.

Wherever you end up, we have a feeling you’re going to be well fed. It’s the French way.
