Because there is no limit on the strawberries and cream combo, Jocelyn’s is baking up cruffins filled with cream, jam and fresh strawbs! This seasonal treat is available Wednesday (the holiday that could have been…) to Saturday at all locations.
Strawberry Sundae Taskforce | delivery or pick-up
You love the classic strawberry sundae, but did you know it’s for a good cause? Medical research charity The Common Good receives more than $500,000 in funding from the sweet treats every year, so they’ve adapted in light of the Ekka’s cancellation! From Wednesday, you can order DIY packs with the goods to make 20 strawberry sundaes at home via DoorDash for $110 including the strawberry ice cream, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, cones and a kilo of local strawberries! Ekka Tastes Drive Thru | Bowen Hills
You can officially get your fix of Dagwood dogs, strawberry sundaes and Bertie Beetle showbags at this multi-lane drive-thru dream! Running 10 am to 7 pm, August 14-22, they’re expected to roll out more than 54,000 sundaes and 30,000 Dagwood dogs (that’s a lotta dawgs). Seeking Ekka flavs on foot instead? There’s also a pop-up at 45 King Street stocked with all the goodies.
EMPORIUM HOTEL | SOUTH BANK
Each venue at Emporium Hotel has its own Ekka-themed item available until August 15, making this a one-stop shop of Ekka flavs! We’re talking the smoked hay parfait at Signature, the Strawberry Fields granita cocktail at The Terrace, the Hay Bae (Husk Botanic agricole, strawberry gum, lemon myrtle, burnt wattle and hay-infused ice cream) cocktail at Piano Bar and the Candyman cake at Belle Epoque. Three words: Bertie Beetle Pie! This creation features chocolate custard filling and crunchy chocolate bits topped with whipped cream and Bertie Beetles for the ultimate snap, crackle and pop. Feeling bold? There’s also a dirty Dagwood Dog creation comprised of cheerios, tommie sauce and a cheesy cornbread topper… *deep breaths* smells like the Ekka!
NEWSTEAD BREWING Co | Various
In honour of the Ekka’s beloved showbags, Newstead Brewing Co is combining its limited edition showcartons with Bertie Beetle chocolate. Their showcartons contain eight Newstead beers, including the all-important Ekka beer Droughtie, as well as limited release brews. DARVELLA PATISSERIE | Bulimba
Putting their own twist on a strawberry sundae, Darvella Patisserie has created their Ekka strawberry sundae croissant! Their signature two-toned croissant cone is filled with vanilla custard and strawberry gel, then topped with vanilla chantilly, strawberry sauce and fresh strawberries. Hurry though, these delights are only available this Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday until sold out!
CHOUQUETTE | various
Presenting another dessert twist on the frozen treat, Chouquette has created a strawberry sundae cheesecake, complete with the freshest strawberries from the Sunshine Coast. This adorable vanilla cheesecake hides a whole strawberry in the centre and is loaded with chantilly cream, strawberry dust, hazelnuts and strawberry slices. Once again, these desserts have limited availability; you can pre-order by calling 0412 612 104.
