Hunting down the latest burger spot or seeking out something new and different is all well and good, but sometimes, you just want something familiar, something fast and something delicious. And if it could be wallet-friendly after a day of hitting the shops in the Wintergarden, that would be great too.
Our go-to when we’re seeking a fast feed? Hanaichi. All that fluffy rice and crispy karaage chicken (can you pick our number 1 dish already?), with a side of lettuce to make us feel better about the carbs – it’s the ultimate post-shopping feed. The fact that this national company was launched right here by a Brisbane local is just a bonus! We polled the G&G office for the top dishes we order every time we find ourselves wandering through the Wintergarden with a severe case of hangry – how does your choice match up?
Even the vegetarian in the office agrees with this one being in the top 4 – did you know you can get a tofu variation? The rest of us were torn between pork and chicken – but protein arguments aside, there’s something about that curry sauce that makes us willing to risk embarrassment and lick the bowl clean.
#1. Kay’s Chicken
Crispy fried chicken, plenty of rice, sweet and sour sauce AND creamy tartar – this bowl just ticks all the boxes. Kay, we don’t know who you are, but we thank you. Can we get a large please?#2. Karaage Ramen
Ok, so you’ll have to go next door to Hanaichi’s sister venue Sushi Deli in the Wintergarden to find this one, but it’s worth the extra steps. With slowly cooked pork bone, chicken bone or kelp broth heaped with freshly house made noodles, the perfect amount of seasoning, crispy chicken, egg, ginger and spring onion, you might just have a new favourite after a bowl of this!
#3. Japanese Curry
Even the vegetarian in the office agrees with this one being in the top 4 – did you know you can get a tofu variation? The rest of us were torn between pork and chicken – but protein arguments aside, there’s something about that curry sauce that makes us willing to risk embarrassment and lick the bowl clean.
#4. Teriyaki Chicken
Too worried about that saucy dress you just bought to get the fried chicken? Flavoursome grilled chicken with teriyaki sauce should be your go-to substitute. Plus, with those seaweed flakes and sesame seeds on top, you can totally consider it a superfood, right? If we’ve made you hungry for Hanaichi, you’ll find them in the Wintergarden in the CBD, open 7 days a week. Words by Ranyhyn Akui Keeping the G&G up to date requires a lot of double lattes, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
