Top mocktail recipes to make at home

Good times, sans the booze.

As we celebrate the beauty of cocktails all week long, we want to ensure all you non-drinkers out there are feeling the love! We’ve gathered a few of our favourite non-alcoholic cocktails for your sipping pleasure…

VIRGIN GRAPEFRUIT AND ROSEMARY COLLINS

SERVES 4

INGREDIENTS

1 cup water

1 cup sugar

3 sprigs of rosemary

2 cups pink grapefruit juice

4 cups sparkling water

METHOD

  1. Add water and sugar into a small saucepan over medium heat. Warm for about five minutes, but do not let the mixture boil.
  2. Once the sugar has dissolved, pour the simple syrup into a heat-safe container. Add rosemary and let steep for at least one hour. 
  3. Add 1/2 cup pink grapefruit juice into four iced glasses. Add one tablespoon of rosemary syrup to each glass. Stir. Top each of the glasses with sparkling water, garnish with rosemary and serve!

NON-ALCOHOLIC SANGRIA

SERVES 10

INGREDIENTS

4 cups white grape juice

1 cup orange juice 

3 limes, juiced

2 oranges

2 peaches

1 cup blueberries

METHOD

  1. Blend the grape juice with ¼ cup blueberries. Pour the liquid into a large jug.
  2. Add the orange and lime juice. Stir.
  3. Add all the chopped fruit and remaining berries.
  4. Chill in the fridge for at least two hours, and serve!

VIRGIN PINEAPPLE JALAPEÑO MARGARITAS

SERVES 2

INGREDIENTS

½ cup pineapple, chopped

1 cup pineapple juice

1 tbsp sugar

6 mint leaves 

4 jalapeños (seeds removed), sliced

500ml sparkling water/soda 

1/4 tsp salt 

1/4 tsp red chili powder

Extra mint leaves, jalapenos and lemon slices for garnishing

Ice cubes

METHOD

  1. Add jalapeño slices, chopped pineapple, mint leaves and sugar to a big glass and muddle well.
  2. Mix salt and chili powder on a small plate
  3. Take two glasses and draw the lemon slices along the entire rim, squeezing gently until the edge is uniformly moistened. Evenly dip the rims into salt and chili powder mixture.
  4. Fill glasses with ice cubes, and divide muddled mixture between the two glasses.
  5. Add pineapple juice and sparkling water, and gently mix. Garnish and serve!

CUCUMBER GINGER MOCKTAIL

SERVES 1 

INGREDIENTS

1 medium cucumber, sliced

10 slices of fresh ginger, about 6cm thick

2 cups sugar 

2 cups still water

120ml soda water

METHOD

  1. Place almost the entire sliced cucumber and ginger in a large, heat-proof bowl. Save a few slices of cucumber for garnish.
  2. Bring sugar and water to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar is completely dissolved. Pour over cucumber and ginger and let stand for two hours. 
  3. Strain into a bottle and chill.
  4. When syrup is chilled, stir about 45ml syrup with about 120ml soda, and garnish with a cucumber slice.

CUDDLES ON THE BEACH

SERVES 1

INGREDIENTS

80ml cranberry juice

80ml grapefruit juice

60ml peach nectar

Lime for garnish

METHOD

  1. Add all ingredients to an iced glass and stir. Garnish with fresh lime and serve!
  2. Yes, this one is very simple. It’s also super tasty and refreshing – and the name made us giggle.
