Toowong locals, you might remember this spot from when it was perched above Sherwood Road, accessible by a hidden staircase, and visited only by those who knew that up that staircase was some the west side’s tastiest Thai. Well now, Jai Thai is better than ever, with a new home just across the road at number 39.
In their new space, you’ll still find the same friendly, smiling faces and flavoursome menu of both traditional and modern Thai feeds – but you will find a whole new look for the restaurant, with stylish wood-lined walls, quirky industrial pendant lights and wide windows opening out onto the bustling Toowong strip.
But for now, it’s all about creamy, spicy, flavour packed Thai dishes, from favourites like pad Thai, massaman curry and prawn rice paper rolls to some less familiar eats. You could just stick to your usual order of 4 spring rolls (or 12 if you’re us), followed by yellow chicken curry and pad see ew – or you could let us dictate your feast and discover your new favourite way to Thai (just do it, ok).
Start with the salmon shots – we promise they’re nothing like oysters shooters. Bite sized morsels of fresh Atlantic salmon in a zesty chilli garlic lime sauce, they’ll get you drooling for the course after one spoonful. Next, you want the Angel’s Wing, crispy boneless chicken wings stuffed with glass noodles. Intrigued? You should be.
Onto the mains, you’re going to opt for the slow cooked lamb massaman – just like your favourite curry, only with a melt-in-your-mouth slow-cooked lamb shank peeking out of the top, the perfect match for those fluffy potatoes. And we sure hope you’ve brought a friend or two, because there’s plenty more to come.
Duck noodles piled with roasted duck (with scrumptiously crispy duck skin, might we add) and steamed vegetables and spicy prawn laksa soup will round out your feast, hopefully with just enough room to fit in some home made deep fried ice cream drizzled with chocolate. Best of all, you can even pair it all with some wine or beer from the bar!
Lunch visitors who don’t want to commit to such a food baby can take advantage of cheap midday deals like a curry with rice for just $10, but you will want to come back for more.
Already en-Thai-ced? You’ll find Jai Thai at 7/39 Sherwoood Road, Toowong, open seven days a week for dinner from 5-10pm, and lunch Monday to Saturday from 11.30am-3pm.

Keeping the G&G up to date requires a lot of double lattes, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
