The Wynnum Seafood Festival is coming this weekend

Get ready, buoys and gills, the Wynnum Seafood Festival is nearly upon us! This inaugural free community event is taking place on Saturday 22 October from 11am to 6pm, serving up an abundance of fresh local seafood straight from the Moreton Bay region. There’s no need to scale back on these fresh-out-of-the-sea feeds, with endless eats sure to get you hooked. We reely recommend getting your hands on the Italian-style prawn arancini balls from Incredible Seafood and fresh calamari from I Heart Calamari. Still hungry? Trout yourself to some fresh mussels with crusty bread from the Mussel Brothers or seafood paella filled to the bream with prawns, mussels and calamari. We know we’re going to be gill-ty of going back for seconds… or thirds. There’ll also be boatloads of other seafood delicacies, including grilled fresh salmon, seafood crepes, freshly shucked oysters, sea scallops and grilled octopus – don’t squid yourself, you want to try them all. Not just reserved for all things under the sea, Wynnum Seafood Festival is giving punters the oppur-tuna-ty to trout yourself to premium wines and craft beers at a number of bars that would surpass the standards of any sailor. Other festival highlights include a prawn-peeling competition, mud crab races, cooking demonstrations and panel discussions with some of Australia’s leading fish and seafood experts. They’ll also be a line-up of Brisbane musical talent, a bunch of activites for the little ones and over 80 market stalls to sink a line in. There’s plenty of fish in the sea – and you’ll be able to try them all at the Wynnum Seafood Festival. Don’t mullet over, head down to the centre of Wynnum on Edith Street between Bay Terrace and Tingal Road on Saturday 22 October from 11am to 6pm. Words by Georgia Tyler
