Tinnies? Check! Two-Up? Check! Food truck eats? Double check! The Shafston Hotel are playing host to an epic ANZAC Day Laneway Party this year, making use of their laneway for a commemorative street session. Head along to enjoy Aussie booze, good food, and to say ‘cheers’ to our diggers.
The day will kick off with The Last Post paying homage to the fallen, before the laneway gates open at 12.30pm for a rousing Two-Up tournament in the outdoor arena at 1pm. The rest of the afternoon can be spent relaxing under the marquees enjoying good food and drink.
The booze line up is as Australian as a footy player in pluggers, featuring chilled retro tinnies from our favourite local brewers Green Beacon and interstate drops from the likes of Tooheys, Fat Yak and a limited release from Australian Brewery. And it wouldn’t be an afternoon session without Somersby ciders. Even those with finer tastes have not been forgotten, with cocktails also available – freshly made and served in a can, of course.
Food trucks are always embraced in any laneway party, and the Shafston line up is no different. Italian pizza favourite Pizzantica will be serving wood-fired goods out of their combi van while taco hombres from Juan More Taco are all set to make an appearance in their trademark red bus. King of Wings and their BBQ wings are bringing the perfect match to the retro tinnies while BBQ Boss will have the rest of the carnivores covered.
But of course no party is complete without tunes, so local music acts will be amping up the volume on acoustic sets from Brissie locals, as well as DJ sets from Brisbane nightclub veteran DJ Tuffy.
Not forgetting what ANZAC day is all about, The Shafston Hotel will also be sponsoring the not-for-profit organisation Mates 4 Mates, who will be collecting donations throughout the day for returned Australian Defence Force members and their families.
Come along and celebrate ANZAC Day in Brisbane with The Shafston Hotel at the corner of Wellington Road and Lytton Road, East Brisbane from 11am. For more information, head over to their event page.
