The beloved waterfront venue, known affectionately as the Grand Lady of the Brisbane River, has been pouring pints as Toowong’s local watering hole for 150 years, and it’s still just as much part of the city’s fabric now as it was then. The Regatta Hotel is going big and not going home with a packed weekend bash and a decadent dinner inside The Boatshed to celebrate their 150th birthday in September.
From September 13 to 15, the Regatta laneway is coming alive, ready to make the most of spring’s warmer weather and season of new beginnings. Groove to the sounds of talented musicians and DJs who’ll be turning the joint into your very backyard party, all while gourmet food stalls line up to keep you satisfied and fuelled into the night.
For the bevvies, rest assured the suite of special anniversary cocktails and craft beers made just for the event will take your fancy. This event is completely free to attend and definitely worth catching to become part of Brisbane’s history – how often do you get to go to a 150th birthday?
Of course, a celebration this big won’t stop there – Regatta’s iconic Boatshed Restaurant is hosting a grand degustation on September 19, expertly crafted by Head Chef, Lochlan Alexander. The five-course menu features the best of the state’s paddock and ocean delicacies, with highlights including seared Queensland scallops and succulent wagyu rump cap. Tickets are limited – people, you have been warned!
If you’re interested in stepping back in time, you can also catch one of the Regatta Hotel’s weekly heritage tours on Thursdays in September. Its history is laced with something for everyone, home to legendary sporting achievements and one of the first feminist insurgencies. Explore fascinating stories and its architectural marvels with the guidance of knowledgeable historian, Robert Allen who will bring the past to life.
The Regatta Hotel certainly has a lot of years ahead of it, so we don’t think 150 years will slow its roll. Kick-start the next century and a half by celebrating this September – and we’ll see you for the 200th anniversary in 2074!
