From 30 August to 6 October, the Museum of Brisbane is transforming into The People’s Dancefloor. Spearheaded by Common People Dance Project, visitors are able to experience an immersive exhibition – rooted in stories of connection, identity, and belonging – while celebrating the beauty of movement, dance, and self-expression.
Throughout the spring holidays, swing by the museum and bust a move with The People’s Dancefloor Workshops – free dance workshops led by the Common People Dance Project. These workshops are open for all ages – from tiny toddlers to groovy grandparents – the sessions are designed to be low impact and easy to follow, making it a fun activity the whole family can enjoy.
Then on 27 September, get ready for the King George Square Showdown, an electric community dance off right in front of the Brisbane City Hall. Spearheaded by Neridah Waters, artist in residence, teams from the north, south, east, and west of the city are bringing their best moves, competing against one another for the crown of The People’s Dancefloor Champions. Who will take the crown? Come and find out.
Whether you’re a seasoned pro, a budding dance beginner, or someone with no dance experience at all, there is an activity for everyone in this celebration of dance and movement. No experience is needed – just your attitude, groove, and dance shoes.
The People’s Dancefloor Exhibition happens this 30 August – 6 October, followed by the People’s Dancefloor Workshops on 20 September – 6 October, and King George Square’s Showdown on 27 September.
