Thought pineapples and bananas were the only things Queensland did well? You thought wrong – a fact you’ll be convinced of after you discover all the other incredible (and delicious) goodies our state dishes up at Regional Flavours on the weekend of 16 and 17 July.
Held across the South Bank Parklands, this two day event will be jam-packed (pun intended) with delicious demonstrations from a star-studded line-up of food and drink personalities and plenty of chances to eat your way through Queensland’s best producers.
In news that had us our drooling a little (and not just for macarons), a few of our foodie crushes are coming along for the weekend, including Adriano Zumbo and Hayden Quinn (be still our beating hearts). You’ll be able to hear from Matt Preston, George Calombaris and Gary Mehigan at the EAT-SHOW-TELL stage, while a plethora of Australia’s best restaurateurs, chefs, farmers, bloggers and brewers alike will be hosting demonstrations and panels in other areas of the Parklands. Presenters such as Maggie Beer, Alastair McLeod and Philip Johnson will expand your culinary mind, and show you how to use regional produce in the best way possible (because we already know how to eat it).
There will be celebrity book signings, so make sure you don’t forget to bring along your most treasured cookbooks (no matter how much of the hollandaise you tried to make squelches out from pages 20-21). And feel free to fan-girl as much as possible.
Then you can explore the rest of the festival depending on what tempts your tastebuds. Learn the art of both slow and fast cooking meat at The Hunting Club, get your green thumb on at the Epicurious Garden or eat your way the best of Queensland’s cheese and wine at Queensland Taste. Meanwhile, Merlo Coffee will present the Sweet Escape, a chance to indulge in treats, desserts, and barista-style coffee.
Little Stanley Street is where the fun will really start. Eat your way through the state’s best providors and a fleet of food trucks. A scoop of Nitrogenie ice cream, perhaps? Or a slice (or five) of gourmet pizza from Mister Paganini? All we know is we’ll be going home with a food baby.
