Melbourne’s Supernormal has touched down in Brisbane’s CBD

Super is the new normal.

The allure of Queensland’s local produce and fresh seafood has drawn the dynamic dining duo, Andrew McConnell and Jo McGann, out of Melbourne’s cool grasp to the welcoming sunshine state with their second Supernormal location.

Supernormal Brisbane’s menu fuses flavours from home and Asia’s capitals, spanning Tokyo to Shanghai and Seoul to Hong Kong. It should come as no surprise that a world-class raw menu headlines the a la carte dining experience, with highlights like mussels and kimchi flatbread, and raw royal red prawns with ginger dressing.

Following the pattern, the menu expands with entrées and dumplings focused on seafood, then into signature dishes and mains bringing crispy lamb with Yuxiang vinegar, grilled grain-fed rib eye, and the familiar twice-cooked spiced duck into the lineup.

Sitting alongside the great Customs House on Queen Street, Supernormal holds its own with grandeur and luxury beaming from within. Natural tones in the foundation and timber accents, paired with subtle green terrazzo flooring and a hand-sculpted marble maître’ d station, pay homage to Brisbane’s subtropical landscape, slotting into South East Queensland with ease. The floor-to-ceiling windows afford guests expansive views of the riverside to the Story Bridge, with a 50-seat private dining space on the floor above.

Supernormal is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, which feels like a rarity and gift amongst Brisbane’s tendency to sleep in on Sundays and Mondays (which we can definitely relate to). For the full experience, make your way to its newly opened sibling Bar Miette before or after your visit, conveniently just an elevator ride away.
