Suburban Foodies: Palm Beach

Let’s go to the beach, each, let’s go get some grub.

Surfers, sunbakers, and sun burners unite! Nestled between Tallebudgera and Currumbin Creek, Palm Beach is home to a plethora of tasty, coastal foodie joints and jean-unbuttoning locations.

Grab your 50+ sunscreen and loosest boardies (please, no budgie smugglers in these venues): it’s time to tropic like it’s hot at Palm Beach’s best eateries.

THE COLLECTIVE | GOLD COAST HIGHWAY

Boasting five different kitchens with their own cuisines, this sprawling hub delivers a mouth-watering experience you’ll be eager to repeat (and repeat, and repeat again). You want sticky pork ribs? Handmade gnocchi? How about vegan tacos? Feeling peckish for beer battered halloumi? Whatever the craving, The Collective has gotchu covered!

There are cocktails aplenty if you prefer your meal a little boozy, with 17 classic flavours and oodles more fun variations for the adventurous (martini served in a wafer cone, anyone?). Take friends willing to share, and nab a cosy bench seat underneath the fairy lights on their rooftop bar for sunset drinks and the perfect #goldenhour selfie.

BAREFOOT BARISTA | PALM BEACH AVENUE

Fresh and local produce are the king and queen of this eatery, boasting inventive flavours and colourful classics. The likely long, zig-zagging line out of this sunny spot just shows how much this crew loves their brews (as do the locals!).

Feeling nauti(cal)? Whip out your splurge card and indulge in their popular gluten-free ricotta hotcakes, crowned with fresh fruit, toasted seeds and Canadian maple mascarpone. There’s healthy appeal, too, with their rainbow antioxidant bowl topped with fresh pomegranate, goji berries, black rice, house fermented veggies, beetroot cashew cheese, and purple sweet potato crisps. Leave your Birks at home and bring along your appetite; the Barefoot Barista is open from 5am every day.

FRIDA SOL | GOLD COAST HIGHWAY

Still nach(o) sure where to eat? When it’s almost-too-much-to-eat portions and seriously flavoursome modern Mexican fare you’re after, look no further than Frida Sol. Paying homage to the legend Frida Kahlo, immerse yourself in a colourful eatery laced with traditional Mexican decor and all things Frida.

Start off your evening with grilled corn with cilantro crema, before indulging in a serving of crispy chimichangas (yup, deep-fried burritos!). Say jalapen-YO to their refreshing margarita options, such as their Bonita, made with tequila, candied jalapeños, lemon, and fresh cucumber juice.

BALBOA ITALIAN | GOLD COAST HIGHWAY

The pasta-bilities are endless at Balboa, with their hearty Italian fare worth every diet-blowing calorie. Every. Single. One.

Oozing rustic charm and Italian flair, experience an authentic taste of Italy on the coast courtesy of woodfired pizza and handmade pasta. Start off your evening with arancini al parmigiano, followed with a gamberi piccanti pizza or pistachio-crusted lamb. Translation? All you need to know is it’s bloody good.

ESPRESSO MOTO | GOLD COAST HIGHWAY

Put on your best (fake) leather jacket and studded boots—this motorbike store-slash-cafe calls for it. Sit back and relax in Espresso Moto’s airy interior as their chefs prepare creative weekly specials in the open-style kitchen. Think pimped-up omelettes, braised chipotle brisket with potato and spinach on sourdough, and slow-braised beans with chorizo, a fried egg, and parmesan snow. What are you waiting for? Drop into first gear and roll into Espresso Moto pronto!

Have a drink, clink, at Palm Beach this month.
