Suburban foodies: Bowen Hills

The historic suburb of Bowen Hills has always been the bridge connecting Brisbane city with the northern suburbs.

If you only visit Bowen Hills for the showgrounds and the scenic train depot, then you’re missing out on one of the finest and most varied foodie experiences that Brissy has to offer.

WELCOME TO BOWEN HILLS

There’s no better first stop on your foodie tour of Bowen Hills than this indoor/outdoor space boasting hella foodie specials, an impressive bar, and immaculate vibes. Pop in to score chicken schnitzels, burgers, and sangria jugs, or make a booking at Harry’s Pizza and enjoy slices of diavola, capricciosa, quattro formaggio, and more.

I HEART BROWNIES

Every heart-shaped creation from I Heart Brownies feels like a warm cuddle, and we just can’t get enough. From classic chocolate to brownies packed with real pieces of Turkish delight, the baked goods at I Heart Brownies are always crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just like Mum wishes she could make (sorry, queen). Their Bowen Hills bakery also packs a stunning selection of coffee, desserts, milkshakes and mocktails, making it a sweet-lover’s dream come true.

IL VERDE

Up there with some of Brisbane’s best pizza and pasta, this Italian spot has reached celebrity status for its cheese wheel pasta nights! Other stars of the show include their cheesy pizzas, gnocchi, and arancini… Those who say you can’t have too much of a good thing clearly don’t love cheese as much as we do.

MONTRACHET

Take your tastebuds on a trip to Paris and back at the endlessly elegant Montrachet. Chef Shannon Kellam has developed a menu that perfectly captures the feeling of authentic French dining, with a la carte, prix fixe, and tasting menus that encapsulate the stunning cuisine.

KING STREET BAKERY

When it comes to the battle of Brisbane’s best bakeries, King Street Bakery takes the cake for us. Their artisan breads, viennoiserie, tartlets, cakes, and savouries are made from scratch by an insanely talented batch of bakers who bring international experience and training to the popular bakery. Thanks, now we’re craving a pain au raisins.

SUPER COMBO

This tasty burger spot was born from owner Hao Vu’s love for the video game Street Fighter. With a menu that draws inspiration from the characters and the countries they represent, Super Combo’s flavours combos are equally eccentric and exquisite. Smash one with a side of corn gems and a super shake, and let the good times begin.

PLANT VIBES CAFE

Only the best vibes radiate from this fully plant based cafe, which happens to turn into a yoga studio when the sun goes down. Encouraging all patrons to eat well and in a sustainable manner, Plant Vibes Cafe serves up tasty brunch plates like tofu and avo loaded croissants, house-made crumpets, mushroom gnocchi, and heaps of grab-and-go raw treats.

Literally every train routes through Bowen Hills, so there’s no excuse for missing out some of the finest food in town.
