With so many delightful foodie-friendly options, including some brag-worthy American burgers and killer coffee on offer, you’ll be galloping on down there by the time you finish reading this list!
5 Boroughs
Bringing a taste of the Big Apple down under, 5 Boroughs is a slow-cooked connoisseurs dream. With their always tasty two-hands-necessary burgers fronting up a fabulous menu of Southern-style American eats including saucy short ribs and melt in your mouth brisket, you’re destined for a self-induced food coma of equal parts pride and self-loathing in no time. Did we mention they’re serving up some killer cocktails in their beautiful garden bar to boot? Pre AND post-race drinks anyone?
One Fifty Ascot Bar & Eatery
Previously Baguette, this revamped French institution is a force to be reckoned with, with a menu sure to leave even the fussiest foodie saying “ooh-la-la!” Your Parisian palate will rejoice when you taste marvellous meals like the fillet mignon, or their Australian take on a pasta classic, kangaroo ragu.
The Stables
Trot down after work for a hump day cure or finish off your weekend with a well-deserved Sunday brew, as The Stables serve up a seriously good selection of craft beers and bar bites. The perfect place for a Sunday crafternoon with friends, this is one place with a brews list worth boasting about. Serving up some tasty treats for all appetites regardless of size, including peppered squid, crispy croquettes and popcorn chicken, you’re quickly running out of reasons to avoid this front-runner of the Ascot foodie scene.
That Thai
Straight to the point and straight to the flavour, That Thai is an authentic Thai food experience in Ascot. Using only the freshest ingredients to create their 110 menu items, you’ll be spoilt for choice when finding your dish for the night (or in our case, at least seven). Our personal fave would have to be the marinated duck with sweet plum sauce, and if you try it you’ll see why.
Taro’s Ramen
If there’s one thing all lovers of Japanese food in Brisbane can agree on, it’s that Taro’s knows ramen. With something for all appetites and levels of spice love, you can fill your belly with as much or as little meaty goodness as you like (pork for days? We think yes) and slurp down endless noodles in steaming broth.
Journey Café & Bar
Pre-ponies brunch hangs? We’d be keen, and whether your poison is sweet or savoury Journey has something for you. Brioche French toast? Or perhaps one of any number of extraordinary egg dishes (eggs benny fan? Look no further). With spectacular salads, scrumptious baked goods and sandwiches that will definitely make you feel inadequate about your usual homemade creations, we defy you to find a reason to not pull up a chair at Journey sometime soon.
The Racing Café
They might technically be in Hendra, but they’ve got the Ascot theme down pat, so we just had to include them – especially since their breakfasts make us want to become morning people (gasp! We know). These guys have stacks on stacks, with pancake stacks, avo stacks and fritter stacks so big they might as well become national monuments. Big breakfast fans, make sure you wear your stretchy pants as this one will leave you feeling a little tighter around the girth.
So, did we get your heart racing at the thought of Ascot foodie adventures?
