Step Into the Grid: TRON Meets Retro Gaming at Reading Cinemas Newmarket This Weekend

Get ready to plug into a weekend of nostalgia at Reading Cinemas Newmarket, where the worlds of old-school gaming and futuristic film collide. To celebrate the release of Disney’s TRON: Ares, the cinema foyer is transforming into a retro gamer’s paradise, complete with classic pinball and arcade machines from the 80s, 90s and 00s.

For one weekend only, Brisbane movie-goers can relive the golden age of gaming before or after diving into TRON: Ares, the highly anticipated next chapter in Disney’s iconic sci-fi saga. Provided by Brisbane’s own ‘Pinball Days’ and ‘Arcade is Not Dead’, the machines will feature a mix of free and pay-per-play options, offering a dose of nostalgia for everyone from die-hard collectors to curious newcomers.

TRON: Ares continues the groundbreaking legacy that began with TRON (1982) and TRON: Legacy (2010), propelling audiences back into the neon-drenched world between man and machine. This time, a digital program named Ares (played by Jared Leto) is sent into the real world on a mission that forces humanity’s first encounter with artificial intelligence. Alongside Eve Kim (Greta Lee), the duo must navigate danger, conscience and connection in a fight to redefine the boundary between technology and humanity.

Adding even more energy to the experience is a gritty, industrial soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails, marking the band’s first official film score. With direction by Joachim Rønning and a stellar cast including Jeff Bridges, Gillian Anderson and Evan Peters, TRON: Ares promises to be a high-voltage ride from start to finish.

So, grab your friends, tap into your inner gamer, and head to Reading Cinemas Newmarket from Thursday 9 October to Sunday 12 October. Afterwards you can enjoy playing the machines at Grove Social at Ashgrove. Whether you’re racking up a pinball high score or journeying back into the grid, it’s the ultimate nostalgic-meets-modern movie experience.
