Sangria Sundays: best spots for an autumn arvo

Other than Antonio Banderas, sangria is probably the very best thing to come out of Spain. It’s delicious, it’s refreshing, and because it usually served with fruit, it’s extremely good for you. Just because we’re so nice (and wanted to drink a lot of sangria), we’ve comprised a list of places to sip sangria for a saucy Sunday sesh (alliteration/10). Monday morning is going to feel horrible enough already; you might as well make the most of your Sunday. Riverbar & Kitchen | CBD  No Sunday sesh list would be complete without a nod to the Riverbar. What better way to while away a beautiful Sunday afternoon than to gaze over the river, a slice of pizza in one hand, and a glass of sangria in the other, ignoring all the responsibilities your week has in store. You absolutely have to try their white sangria, with Absolut vodka, elderflower liqueur, white wine, citrus, lemonade, and seasonal fruit, it’s a delicious twist on a classic cocktail! Get sippin’! Beach Burrito Co. | West End There’s no way to improve upon drinking sangria and eating tacos, right? Wrong! The Beach Burrito Co. is serving up full 1L jugs for only $20 on Sundays! Swing by at 11am, get comfy, and reap the benefits of this delicious deal until 11pm… It sounds like a long time, but when nachos are thrown into the mix, it’s frighteningly easy to do.  Eagles Nest | Kangaroo Point Does your idea of a perfect Sunday afternoon consist of live music, stunning city views and delicious cocktails and food? If it doesn’t, what’s wrong with you? The Eagles Nest pop up bar is the ultimate way to wind down your weekend. In a list of delightful and inventive cocktails, the French sangria with white wine, pavan muscat liqeur, Aperol, seasonal fruit and lemonade, definitely stands out! Do yourselves a favour and check this place out. Watt Restaurant and Bar | New Farm Watt’s that you say? More sangria? Okay! Head to Watt Restaurant and Bar for some delectable bar food (how do manchego croquettes, za’atar aioli and fried basil sound?), riverside views, and most importantly, delightful cocktails! We can’t go past their sangria blanco, with Bacardi, house spiced rum, peach schnapps, lemon juice, strawberries, grapefruit and orange, topped with pinot gris and soda… It’s as amazing as it sounds. Sixes and Sevens | Fortitude Valley It’s been said that we have two hands so that we can hold two cocktail jugs at the same time… Put that phone in your pocket and try Sixes and Seven’s white wine & strawberry sangria and their spiced red wine sangria! A drink in each hand will prevent you from taking embarrassing Snapchats, so many benefits. There you have it Brisbane, put your drinking hats on, lay some Berocca on your bedside table and end your weekend with a bang! Words by Georgia Casey
