Ride the Brisbane Fusion Wave

Brisbane, it’s time to spice up your life! And no, we’re not talking about the Spice Girls. If it’s too hard sometimes to decide between Chinese or Mexican, why not just have both? Fusion restaurants are taking over the Brisbane dining scene, with new and old establishments combining flavours to create exotic tastes and satisfy all those cravings.
CASA CHOW

From the team of the widely popular Sasso, Casa Chow is a Chifa style eatery mixed with Peru and Chinese flavours. Located in South City Square in Woolloongabba, the vibrant decor and neon hues make for an electrifying experience, with Latin American music filling the air. The menu ranges from Chafu prawn and pork fried rice to many dim sum options.

Designed to share, there are also two banquet options filled with the likes of wagyu karubi, pork and beef dumplings and potato and chorizo empanadas. And if that’s not enough, the cocktail menu will have you racing in:  our eyes are on a pisco sour.

DOS MANOS

With the name meaning two hands, Dos Manos combines Mexican spirit and Japanese elegance.. Nestled in Reddacliff Street in Newstead, the Pan Pacific inspired menu is filled with unique options like shiriyaki squid, katsu chicken tacos and Mexican street corn with miso butter. Let’s be honest, there’s nothing else better than miso butter.

Dos Manos also offers deals throughout the week including El Chapo Taco Tuesdays with dishes starting at $6, Wing It Wednesdays with 1KG wings and a house beverage for $29, as well as Samurai Saturdays, an evening brunch with a four course menu for $69. Also for the margarita lovers, happy hour is every day. Chilli margs for everyone!

SATAY RIA

Craving a laksa? Or what about a signature satay? This Cannon Hill institution is the place to visit. Open since 2011, Satay Riahas become a Brisbane staple for everything Malaysian. Combined with Chinese flavours, the menu is filled with all your favourites like special fried rice, duck spring rolls and sweet and sour pork – but the seafood laksa is a must order.

Dubbed the king of chilli crab, Satay Ria has been awarded Best Malaysian restaurant in Queensland numerous times, and it’s no wonder why.

KURTOSH

Now for that something sweet. With four bustling locations in Sydney already, Kurtosh brings the sweet Hungarian pastry to West Village in West End, a hub of some of Brisbane’s most eclectic global eats. Setting out to recreate the traditional flavours from Hungary, the bakery is filled with delectable options like nutella babka muffins, cookies and cream cheesecakes and espresso butter and chocolate roulade.

Their specialty is the Kurtosh, famously known as a chimney cake, with a caramelised crispy outer and a delicate soft inside. The flavours range from coconut to nutella, with everything else in between. Also specialising in cakes for birthdays and special occasions, Kurtosh is the spot for all those sweet cravings.
