Regional foodies: Bangalow

The region might be known for its award-winning pork producer, but there's plenty more to get on your fork in this gorgeous historic town!
Fridas Field | Nashua

Just up the road from town, this stunning farm-turned-restaurant is open for incredible long lunches every Friday-Sunday. Using ingredients from their holistic farm (which is home to fruit, vege and a herd of Angus/Wagyu cattle), the long lunch menu changes regularly and might feature dishes like mussels with carrots, roast mandarin and coastal succulents, and wood-fired beef with roast parsnip puree and creamed horseradish. The lunches book out quickly, so you’ll have to plan ahead for this one!

Butcher Baker | Byron Street

A staple on the Bangalow dining agenda, this charming cafe is open for breakfast and lunch every day. You might start the morning with their anchovy eggs (two fried eggs with chilli and onions on top of a pesto toasted sourdough crostini with pickled white anchovies, roast tomatoes and greens) or browse the lunch menu of burgers, sangas and salads. Don’t forget to grab a stuffed doughnut from the cabinet for the drive home!

Ciao Mate | Byron Street

A super funky addition to the main street, Ciao Mate serves up a menu of classic and delicious Italian plates like spaghetti, Neapolitan-style pizzas and the requisite tiramisu. Pull up a seat in the retro dining room or checkered cloth-covered tables outside, and strap in for a little taste of Italy in the Northern Rivers.

Bangalow Hotel | Byron Street

It’s not a regional town visit with a pub meal! The Bangalow serves up all your pub classics as well as the likes of market fish with caponata on polenta, pumpkin and fennel orecchiette, and even a double-baked chocolate souffle! The classic deco hotel even has a fireplace you can cosy up to on those cool countryside nights, and a large deck to soak up some of the action from the street below.

Woods | Station Street

This one’s for the Insta-fiends! The sibling venue of Byron’s ever-popular Folk, Woods serves up a wholesome menu of (mostly) plant-based eats like sourdough crumpets, smashed avo and seasonal bircher bowls from a gorgeous shabby-chic spot that definitely deserves a spot on the feed (after you’ve had your feed!). Don’t forget to check out the chalkboard for yummy daily specials.

Bang bang, foodies!
