Opa! Eagle Street's latest addition for mezze and more

Jellyfish is closed, but the kalamari is grilled!

Opa Bar & Mezze, the latest addition to Michael Tassis’ family of venues (including Fatcow Steak & Lobster, Rico Bar + Dining, Massimo and George’s Paragon), is now open in the unbeatable former Jellyfish site.

Bringing the flavours of Tassis’ Greek heritage to the riverfront space, the combined restaurant and bar is now serving up authentic Greek flavours seven days a week, with lunch available 11 am-3 pm, dinner 5:30 pm-9 pm and the bar and mezze menu kicking on until late!

The menu features the requisite dips including taramasalata, fava, tyrokafteri (peppers and feta) and tzatziki for pairing with Greek village-style bread, while the seafood selection (a signature on Tassis’ menus) includes sand crab with capers, taramasalata and scampi caviar, Mykonian-style ocean trout with citrus, watermelon and fennel, and the “Opa Smash” seafood platter laden with sand crab meat, raw honey bugs, raw sardines,  cooked prawns, natural oysters and a lobster tail for $80.

The main event, mezze, and larger plates equally feature meats, seafood and veg, with highlights including capsicum yemista stuffed with rice and herbs, grilled lamb ribs with oregano, lemon and tyrokafteri, and a rich Wagyu moussaka. Moreton Bay bugs and lobsters will also be available at market price from the tank, while two banquet options (one at $68pp and one at $95pp) are guaranteed to make ordering from the extensive menu easier.

In the dedicated Opa bar area, drinkers can expect Greek wines and cocktails to pair with their mezze, while the oyster shucking station is sure to have you shelling out after a few!

A new spot bringing big Greek flavours to a gorgeous riverside setting? Now that’s news worthy of smashing a few plates!
