For as long as we can remember, the Valley’s Eleven Rooftop Bar was a go-to for snacks, cocktails and general frivolity of a Saturday night. Since heavy restrictions have come into play for the hospitality community, places like Eleven had to find new and innovative ways to operate…
Enter MAYA Mexican–the brand new pop-up restaurant taking over Eleven for the next little while. And honestly, we want her to stay forever.
Dressed in white and spanning across many spaces (we’re talking the courtyard, patio, main bar, private booths), the fit-out of MAYA is fresh, bright, and perfectly modern Mexican.
The same can be said for the menu, which takes traditional Mexican dishes and elevates them (pun intended) into 2020. MAYA’s food is a contemporary rendition of Mexican street food, with heavy influences from the coastal Pacific, Yucatan and Sonoran.
Our foodie picks? It’s a crime not to order the illegal ribs–slow-cooked in chipotle bbq with a mezcal glaze and chimichurri, alongside a healthy serving of battered jalapenos with frijoles and aioli!
When it ticks over to taco time, we have our eyes on the pescado: Dos Equis-battered snapper with guacamole, chipotle mayo, pickled and cabbage slaw.
Catch us at the bar working our way through the extensive list of tequila, mezcal and sotol, alongside Mexican cocktails (Margaritas, anyone!?) and a few international and Aussie beers and wines.
MAYA Mexican is now open at 757 Ann St, Fortitude Valley–we recommend booking a table here. Well, there’s Saturday night plans sorted for the foreseeable future…
