Hope and Anchor

267 Given Terrace, Paddington
(07) 3367 8300

Another bar from Jamie Webb, the man behind Lefty’s and Ginger’s (so you know this is going to be a good spot for a drink), Hope & Anchor manages to combine the best parts of an old-school English pub and the most creative gastropub you can think of. Taking over a heritage listed bakery, the venue practically oozes charm, with exposed brick walls, leather booths and even a few stuffed animals.

But onto the more important things, namely, what is there to eat and drink? Well don’t expect bangers and mash here, but you will find some retro dishes like steak tartare, gourmet fish fingers and devils on horseback (ask mum if you’ve never heard of THOSE before). There’s even a good old chip butty sandwich pimped up with black garlic mayo, not to mention some sweet desserts if you need a sugar hit.

While you nibble, get your drink on with classic cocktails, a pretty impressive list of wines and of course, a whole lot of craft beers on tap, in bottles and in tins – so pick your poison.
