What is it about laneway dining that makes eating out just a little more satisfying? Is it the novelty of dining under the stars? Or the sheer bliss of being outside of four walls and still having a top notch feed in front of you? Whatever it is, we’ve found it at Hello Please, along with some drool-worthy eats.
A cute and quirky new addition to Fish Lane in South Brisbane, Hello Please has set up shop in a refurbished shipping container – but this is more than just a grab-and-go market-style eatery. Behind the container, you’ll find a chilled out seating area filled with long picnic tables and lit by fairy lights, so if you need a break from your 9-5 grind or somewhere to relax with a beer and bao buns on Friday night, you’ll find it here.
The menu is all about fresh Vietnamese eats, from steaming bowls of pho to flavoursome dumplings. For lunch, wrap your hands around rice paper rolls filled with beef and wasabi mayo, Peking duck or hoisin peanut tofu, or bahn mi stuffed with poached chicken, herbs, pickled carrot, cucumber and kewpie. Hello please? More like goodbye hanger!
At dinner, take a seat under the twinkling lights for ginger and prawn spring rolls, crispy chicken ribs, pork belly bao buns and DIY pancakes with pulled pork to share. How one small shipping container can dish up such large flavours is a mystery to us – one we’ll definitely continue to investigate with further sampling.
Of course, with one of the owners of Ascot’s The Stables Craft Bar and Kitchen behind the helm along with Pearl Café’s Maris Cook, you can expect a drinks list to match. With a small but all-encompassing range of wines and beers plus daily cocktail specials on the blackboard, there’ll alway be something to pair with your feed.
You’ll find Hello Please in Fish Lane across from Julius Pizzeria in South Brisbane, open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
