Teneriffe might be a bit of a hipster paradise now (full of tasty eats we love, but still), but it wasn’t so long ago that it was a farming area and industrial hub with more sheep in residence than people. While the suburb has embraced its trendy new status with all the designer apartments and craft beer bars it could muster, it does like to get back to its roots once a year with the Teneriffe Festival.
This year’s festival is happening on the Saturday 2 July, from 10am-9pm. Teneriffe’s sheepish heritage will be explored through tours through the area’s old wool stores and historical displays, but as always, we are far more interested in what we’re going to be eating.
A whole bunch of those tasty eats and craft beer brewers we love so much will be making an appearance, with a fabulous array of food and wine businesses coming together to turn a few of Teneriffe’s main streets into a foodie haven for the day. As a part of Tastes of Teneriffe, cafes and bistros like Brio and The London Club will be dishing up fancy festival food, while brewers Green Beacon have paired with LONgTIME this year for a bespoke festival menu paired with craft beers that will have you drooling.
For something totally laid back, you can hit up the markets, where the scents of coffee, baked goods and other goodies will all waft together for that delicious market smell that convinces you, yes, you can eat one more cardboard plate of deep-fried deliciousness. Returning this year is the Brisbane Cheese Market, where you’ll find everything from brie and camembert to gooey grilled haloumi and raclette, along with plenty of pop-up bars where you can find the perfect tipple to go with your feed.
Throw in a petting zoo, loads of live music, vintage wares and roaming performers and you’re pretty much set for a day (and evening: the festival goes until 9pm) of gluttony in all its forms. Will ewe be there?
