A stein in one hand, a pretzel in the other and a spectacular river view in front of you – no, you’re not on the banks of the Spree River in Berlin, you’re sitting on the balcony of Eagle Street Pier’s Bavarian Bier Café, the closest you’ll ever get to Germany without having to leave the CBD.
With German beer hall-style timber bench seating inside and out, the regular sound of cow bells clanging every time someone orders a rack of schnapps and one of the best views in town, this Brisbane city bar really has it going on. From midweek lunches of crispy chicken schnitzel club sandwiches to Sunday sessions filled with steins of unpronounceable German deliciousness and tasting platters of roasted pork knuckle, sausages, pork belly and sauerkraut, there’s something for everyone.
Ready for an ice cold brew you need two hands to hold on a Friday afternoon? Find a spot overlooking the river where you can drink your way through their 23 Bavarian biers (ok, maybe not ALL of them) and line your stomach with few hot, buttery pretzels. On Sundays, the bar throws an epic Balcony Party, with a pig on the spit, free pork sliders with any drink purchase, and plenty of steins of that pure Bavarian bier to down while you listen to the live DJ.
It’s not all food baby inducing pork and beer, of course. Bavarian Bier Café also have plenty of lighter options for those who channel Heidi Klum over Augustus Gloop. Crispy calamari salads, fresh vegetable sticks with hommus and pan roasted salmon with root vegetables – you’ll find it all on the modern favourites menu. And it all leaves plenty of room for house made apple strudel for dessert.
There’s even cocktails to pair with a charcuterie platter or artisan cheese board on a Saturday night. Get a Brewed Awakening for the night ahead with vodka, Kahlua and espresso, or sip something a little fruitier with a Spiced Blueberry Mojito. If you do want to get your German on but can’t handle more than two sips of bier (we understand), there’s always sour apple schnapps and pale ales flavoured with a dash of fruit juice.
So whether you need a weekend hang out that will appease every member of your friend group (hot tip: check out their Christmas set menus for festive gatherings) or you’re just screaming for a bier at 5 o’clock on a Friday, get yourself to the Bavarian Bier Café.
Keeping the G&G up to date with all the latest tasty tidbits requires a lot of double lattes and espresso martinis, so we occasionally need to give out some sponsored love. But rest assured that we only work with businesses that we think are really nifty, as the sponsor for this post is!
