From field to fork at New Farmer’s Kitchen

Watt Bar at the Powerhouse has recently undergone a makeover. Don’t worry, the river views and serene Sunday atmosphere are still well and truly present, but a new ‘paddock to plate’ philosophy of utilising fresh and local produce has snuck into their New Farmer’s Kitchen menus, and the results are sensational. Locals will be no doubt be pleased with the weekend breakfast menu, on which plenty of favourites make an appearance. There’s sweet treats like banana bread and crumpets, fit food like toasted granola, bircher muesli and chia puddings, and savoury sensations like huevos rancheros, poached eggs with hummus, dukkah and feta and even croque monsieur. Fancy a feast? Take on the New Farmer’s Big Breakfast with eggs, bacon, roast tomato, chipolata and mushrooms on sourdough. Coupled with a coffee, fresh juice or a super smoothie, it’ll sure have you ready to make the most of the weekend! weekly fork 22 featureThe evening dining menu showcases the produce of the sea, the farm and the garden. If your mouth doesn’t water at the sound of braised short rib parppardelle or Kingaroy pork cutlets with salsa verde, there’s always the salads. Lighten up with prosciutto, melon and mint, or an appropriately epic antipasto, carrot and pea bruschetta with a beetroot, asparagus and radish salad. Our picks for a Sunday session by the river were the fruits of the sea, including a deceptively simple barramundi dish with an olive crumb and asparagus that nonetheless had us drooling. If you’re a chowder fan, the clam and mussel stew is an absolute flavour sensation, served with a hearty slab of fresh bread to ensure every last drop is savoured. If you just feel like a quick nibble at the bar, you’ll find bites like salt and pepper cuttlefish, buffalo wings and soft shell barramundi taco waiting to be paired with the extensive drinks list. A local venue, showcasing local produce, for the hearts and bellies of the locals – it doesn’t get much better than that!
