Feast on local fare at Newstead’s newest cafe

Eating in the grocery store is no longer frowned upon with the opening of Pantry 360! The newest addition to the developing Newstead area, this quirky café is a relaxed spot for all day dining as well as stocking up on groceries, with a variety of locally produced goods overflowing their shelves. So if you’ve ever wanted to snack on toast while browsing the chutney aisle, now is your chance! Here, everything is sourced from within a 360km radius of Brisbane – hence the name! Their just launched breakfast menu is short and sweet, but full of interesting local flavours. Poached eggs on ciabatta comes with asparagus and finger lime caviar, while bacon and eggs are replaced by honey glazed speck with poached eggs on potato rosti. If you’re struggling to get out of bed, let the spicy breakfast hot pot with haloumi and chorizo kick start your palate, and you’ll never eat banana bread again once you’ve had pumpkin bread with caramelised nectarines and Scenic Rim yogurt! Lunch and dinner are also laden with South East Queensland sourced ingredients. Try the yellowfin tuna with quail eggs and fresh burrata, the pork belly with beetroot apple relish, the pumpkin and eggplant curry with pumpkin crisps, or the steak sandwich with onion relish and washed rind cheese. Speaking of cheese, their three cheese plate with fruit paste is an excellent way to sample some local talent, and you wouldn’t be the first to contemplate having it for breakfast! As well as supporting local growers and producers, you’ll be contributing to sustainable practices eating here – leftover fruits and vegetables are used to make preserves in house, which then make it back on to the menu, ensuring nothing goes to waste. And of course, with everything on the menu inspired by the seasons, the line up changes monthly – meaning you have a new reason to go back every few weeks! You’ll also find it very hard to leave without purchasing a take-home treat from their extensive range of sauces, oils, spice mixes, dairy and Ballandean estate wines. Carefully curated and lovingly sourced from small batch producers you probably didn’t even know existed in Brisbane’s backyard, the shelves of goodies feature everything from apple strudel jam to smoked garlic salt. There’s even a fridge of Frozen Sunshine ice blocks to pair with a Harvest Juice on hot days! So whether you stop by for a bite to eat on their sunny patio or you just need to pick up some delicious local goodies for your own pantry, Pantry 360 has something for you. Find them on the corner of Skyring Terrace and Wyandra Street in Newstead. Words by Kat Gridley
