Welcome the blooming of the sakura (aka the cherry blossom for those not fluent in Japanese – don’t worry, we had to look it up!) in Australia this season at Brisbane’s favourite contemporary Japanese fine diner, Saké Restaurant and Bar.
In celebration of one of Japan’s most impressive gifts to the world, all throughout the month of September, Saké Restaurant and Bar will be celebrating cherry blossom season by hosting two exclusive dinners and a picnic-themed lunch event, as well as offering a range of limited-edition cocktails inspired by the iconic pink blooms.
Both to be hosted in Saké’s private dining room, the two exquisite dinners will aim to showcase Japan’s regional cuisine, one focusing on the cuisine of Japan’s east, the other on Japan’s west. Each menu, paired with drinks, will be $159 per person, or hell, why not experience east and west and book both dinners for $300 per person?!
If looking for another excuse to indulge all in the name of the cherry blossom, then Saké’s weekend picnic event held on the final weekend of September may just have your name on. Dine tatami-style with an extensive, shared Japanese menu, which includes a cocktail on arrival and two hours of Veuve Clicquot rosé, Cloudy Bay wine and Sapporo beer in a Japanese floral wonderland.
Beyond cherry blossom soirées, Saké Restaurant and Bar will also be creating four limited-edition cocktails inspired by the fabled Japanese flowers to sip beneath the canopies of pink petals. With cocktails such as the Little Geisha, a fruity-sweet combination of Tanqueray gin, Luxardo Maraschino sour cherry liqueur, Amabuki Brewery Pink Lady sake, mixed with cranberry juice, lime juice, strawberry purée and egg whites, along with Not An Ordinary Cherry, Yozakura and Cheri Dorinku you will surely feel as if you’re in the heart of Japan underneath one of the world’s most charismatic trees.
Like the cherry blossoms themselves, these cocktails will not be around for long, so make sure to pop in before the blossoms begin to fall for another year.
