Brought to you by the group who gave us all time Valley faves like Gerard’s Bistro, Hatch & Co and Laruche, comes The Apo bar and eatery, a new spot to get a little classy in the Valley.
Put your burger hanger away for one night and whip on your best LBD instead, because you’re in for a serious treat once that fabulous high heel steps foot into The Apo. Before you tuck into some seriously creative menu goodness (with the odd onion ring thrown in there for good luck), feast your eyes on the bar and restaurant housed in what was formally an apothecaries hall (ding ding ding – there’s your name sake) and enjoy a cocktail in their upstairs bar, featuring plenty of exposed brick and polished concrete. It’s like an interior designer threw up marble, class and industrial trimmings all over the place and we love every inch.
But enough about aesthetics, we all know you’re here for the food. Don’t be intimidated by the un-apo-logetically quirky menu, featuring pairings like suckling pig with yoghurt foam or moonlight flat oyster with ice plant. (Can we all just take a moment to wonder what the hell an ice plant is? Ok, moment over.) Spend the evening passing around share plates like their infamous hand-pickled sand crab with nasturtium (it’s like someone mistook the flower garden for the veggie patch) or get a little shellfish and top off a plate of lobster, brioche, chives and egg emulsion all by yourself.
And dessert? If you like your cheddar cloth bound, man alive is this the place for you! Take your pick between a selection of cheeses, nitrogen parfait or chocolate mascarpone with milk skin, sugar crisp and burnt vanilla and enjoy the intrigue of what this international kitchen of mystery will plate up next.
If you’re just out to throw back a couple of drinks then there’s an impressive offering of tipples ready and waiting for a raging good time. Sidle up to the bar and order off their extensive cocktail list or head out to the back courtyard and wile away an evening over a great selection of beers, wines and ciders. There’s even an exclusive bar menu available 10pm until late, daily.
