Here is what to look forward to.
Cutting Edge by Fashion Queensland and IMB
Now in its second year, Cutting Edge unites Brisbane’s leading designers with the scientific research of the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland. Five studios will present one-off garments inspired by groundbreaking discoveries, exploring the intersection of fashion, art and science.
Featured designers include Joash Teo of JoTeo, Kiara and Bianca Bulley of Bulley Bulley, Andrzej Pytel of Krysztof, Tahnee and Natalie Sommerfeld of Sommerfeld, and Lydia Jiang.
The presentation offers audiences the chance to view the works and to hear directly from both designers and scientists. The initiative is supported by partners including Culturelink, Left Bank Art Group for fabric printing, and Merlo Coffee.
Conversations at Queensland Museum
The programme also includes curated talks at the Queensland Museum, hosted after hours within the exhibition Make a Scene: Fashioning Queer Identity and Club Culture in the 90s. These events are about more than style, exploring fashion as identity, history and community.
One highlight, From Brisbane to the World, will bring together leaders whose careers blend creativity with community building, offering an essential discussion on the future of fashion in Queensland.
Brand Builders and E-commerce Leaders
This year a new talk will take place on 22 October at Brisbane Powerhouse. The session will feature brand founders, e-commerce innovators and household names, sharing insights that will be invaluable whether you are a designer in the making or simply an admirer of what Brisbane’s labels are achieving.
West Village Runway
On 9 October the BFM West Village Runway returns with a showcase that bridges sustainable and artful design. Designers include Astille, House of Falcone, Bulley Bulley, Mabel Brempong, Milly Zu, Palma Martin, Sommerfeld and others.
The runway will be staged at Metro Arts with two sessions at 5.30 pm and 7.30 pm, complete with drinks on arrival and plenty of style inspiration.
Emerging Fashion Design Scholarship
In support of the next generation of talent, Fashion Queensland is in its 4th year of the Emerging Fashion Design Scholarship with Billy Blue College of Design at Torrens University for Queensland students. The recipient will receive half of their tuition covered together with mentorship through Fashion Queensland.
Why It Matters
Brisbane Fashion Month has always been about more than glamour. It creates connections between design and science, past and future, and identity and innovation. It also builds real opportunities for designers.
At its ten-year milestone, the programme reflects how much Brisbane has grown in confidence, creativity and influence.
Tickets are now available for events, runways and talks, with more conversations still to be announced.
