The new baby of Jonathan Barthelmess, of Sydney’s (and Tokyo’s) The Apollo and Cho Cho San, Greca is a contemporary take on the classic Greek taverna, and all about laid back Mediterranean hospitality inspired by Barthelmess’ Greek heritage.
With its white-washed walls, swaying olive trees, and fresh river breeze, you can just about close your eyes and smell the Aegean.
The 210-seater has something for the bar snacker, light eater, or serious diner, and (like much of the Howard Smith Wharves precinct) has a focus on fresh, local seafood; think taramasalata with fries, Moreton Bay bugs with nettle butter, and half or whole charcoal chickens with lemon and pepper.
Like any great Greek feast, sweets are not neglected and are certainly not limited to baklava. Get stuck into frozen Greek yoghurt with honey and pistachios, and katoumari, a donut-scented twist of filo with custard and walnuts.
For those looking to spend a bit of time at the Wharves’ prime location nestled under the Story Bridge a range of banquet options titled the Full Greek, Almighty Aphrodite, and Apollo Feast are guaranteed to be a good time that keeps everyone well fed.
With straight-off-the-boat seafood, a stunning riverside location, and a killer Mediterranean-influenced booze list, Greca is bound to be more fun than the original Olympics! As their mantra says: feta make it better.
