Brisbane’s fanciest Chinese restaurants

Pek(ing) dining starts here.

Is it a coincidence that the delicious word ‘eats’ is only one letter swap away from ‘east’? We think not!

While the G&G love mom-and-pop restaurants as much as the next foodie, it’s time to leave our suburban eateries behind and take a walk on the fancy side with these Brisbane gourmet Chinese restaurants.

Donna Chang | CBD

To quote the words of a wise emperor, “you don’t meet a girl like this every dynasty!”

Aside from having the most aesthetic dining lounge that you ever did see, Donna Chang is famous for supplying scrumptious modern takes on classic Chinese favourites. Think kung pao tiger prawns with Sichuan chilli, char siu sweet-roasted pork neck paired with rockmelon, and mud crab served with ginger, shallot, black pepper, and XO sauce.

Stanley | Howard Smith Wharves

Repeat after me: in this Chinese restaurant, we stan!

The newest addition to Brisbane’s gourmet Chinese scene, Stanley champions Cantonese-inspired cooking (having been named after Hong Kong’s gorgeous Stanley Bay). Head in to its beautiful location on Howard Smith Wharves to dine on the signature dim sum platter, stir-fried wagyu beef with oyster mushrooms, potato, and black pepper sauce, and “under the bridge” style mud crab!

Madame Wu | CBD

If your adore share-style dining and modern East-Asian dishes, Madame Wu is the one for you. Once you’ve finished staring at the restaurant’s pristine riverside views, feast your eyes on their banquet options! We’re talking delightful Moreton Bay bug dumplings with XO and lime, tang sui chicken ribs, and their signature main; snapper served Guilin-style in Tsingtao beer.

Little Valley | Fortitude Valley

Ain’t nothing little about the menu at this Fortitude Valley favourite! Little Valley boasts everything from yum cha to a raw bar, and a variety of large and small dishes, leaving guests who dine there spoilt for choice. If we had to pick a favourite dish, however, it would have to be a tie between the aged-roast duck plated up with peach and bourbon hoisin and the kingfish cutlet topped with brown butter, preserved olive and lup cheong.

Brisbane Phoenix | CBD

From out of the ashes of Brisbane’s CBD and traffic congestion, the Phoenix rises! This staple restaurant specialises in yum cha during the day and seafood at night, which means you’re in for a tasty experience no matter when you’re in. We suggest starting with their unique beef and coriander soup before diving into salt and chilli soft-shell crab, green lip abalone, coral trout, or snow crab mains.

Fat Noodle | CBD

What’s a list of gourmet Chinese without a mention of Peking duck? Fat Noodle in Treasury Brisbane is one restaurant that does this famous dish best, wrapping the delicious pieces of duck in steamed pancakes with cucumber, shallots and hoisin sauce. It would be a sin not to try it!

Now that’s some fine China.
