Where to taste Brisbane’s best Vietnamese fare

Pho real.

Fact: everyday should start with a Vietnamese coffee. Also fact: Vietnamese is one of the most delicious cuisines that the world has to offer.

We have one job today, and that’s to tell you where you can get your fix of fresh Viet eats in Brisbane.

CAFE O-MAI | ANNERLEY

For breaky or lunch with a side of culture, it’s gotta be O-Mai. This popular spot serves hearty Vietnamese staples and quite possibly Brisbane’s best banh mi, alongside fresh coconuts to sip on, and Vietnamese iced coffee. O-Mai, it’s good.

HELLO PLEASE | SOUTH BRISBANE

We’re extremely partial to a banquet, and Hello Please happens to offer one that is chockablock with amazing Vietnamese flavours. I mean, who can say no to confit duck pancakes with plum hoisin?

PHO INN | CAMP HILL

Honestly, we’d camp out for days for just a taste of Pho Inn’s perfect broth. This no-fuss family-owned southside staple serves up all of your favourites from vermicelli salads and phos to laksas and rice dishes, all washed down with a wide range of traditional Vietnamese beverages.

VERANDAH ON RACECOURSE | HAMILTON

With an all-day menu that focuses on Viet fusion, this northside stalwart will take you from breaky to dinner without skimping on flavour. It’s hard to pick just a few dishes from the extensive menu, but their signatures can’t be missed… Think crispy egg noodles topped with stir-fried veg, seafood sweet and sour soup, or turmeric fish fillet on a bed of vermicelli salad.

PHUC DELI | WEST END AND INDOOROOPILLY

You’ll smell it before you see it, and those fragrant aromas tell the tale of the feast you’re about to enjoy. At Phuc, it all starts with fresh, healthy, local produce, and finishes with a kitchen of talented chefs who impart bucket loads of flavour into every dish.

FAT NOODLE | CBD

Paying homage to his Vietnamese heritage, Luke Nguyen’s Fat Noodle is an exotic hideaway in the heart of Treasury Brisbane. Luke’s legendary 20-hour Fat pho noodles have a reputation that precedes it, alongside a menu that fuses flavours from across Asia.

LIBERTINE | PETRIE TERRACE

If imaginative French-Vietnamese cuisine is what you’re after, look no further than Libertine. Kick things off with cocktails and small bites like Moreton Bay bug toast and Vietnamese fried chicken, before loading up your table with street-style share plates.

QUAN THANH | WEST END

Oh boy. There’s a reason this beauty has been around for as long as we can remember! Quan Thanh is a West End icon for many reasons, but the friendly service, punchy flavours and perfect bowls of pho has locals coming back time and time again.

THE BALFOUR KITCHEN | NEW FARM

Vietnamese cuisine is all about that perfect balance between sweet, spicy, sour, and salty flavours–a balance that The Balfour Kitchen has down to an art. The two- and three-course dinner menus and ‘taste it all’ share-style feasts offer a contemporary take on Vietnamese flavours, with stars like pork belly with nuoc cham, orange, radish and snow peas, and twice-cooked duck with lap cheong, greens, and black funghi.

TRANG | WEST END

When your pho has won award after award, you must be pretty special. Tucked away in the back corner of West End, Trang’s pho-nomenal fare has Brisbanites travelling across town for a bowl of the good stuff.

Let us guess what you’re craving now…
