Brisbane's best vegan eats

Ah, ‘the dining struggle’.

We’ve taken the leg work out of rounding up Brisbane’s best vegan eats–where there’s a little something for everyone or the fare is so dang good the carnivores amongst us won’t realise they’re eating meat-free….

GREENHOUSE CANTEEN & BAR | WEST END

Greenhouse Canteen & Bar is committed to providing quality and cruelty-free fare to Brisbane diners. With a menu that takes you around the world (we’re talking arancini, quinoa chilli nachos, mushroom burgers, Korean rice cakes, and more), this South Brisbane (and GC) haunt is up the top for us.

EL PLANTA | SOUTH BRISBANE

While their bricks-and-mortar venue has only been around for a few months, the folks at El Planta have already made a name for themselves around Brissy as plant-based innovators…

Taking traditional Mexican dishes like tacos al pastor and frijole con puerco where pork is considered an essential ingredient, the team utilise ingredients and techniques like slow-braising jackfruit to not only match the classics, but hit them out of the park. In fact, everything at this taqueria is handmade from scratch, and absolutely exploding with flavour! Now, who’s up for tequila shots!?

LORD OF THE FRIES |  FORTITUDE VALLEY

Honestly, you had us at fries.

Lord of the Fries is a completely vegan fast food joint, with outlets across the country including Fortitude Valley and Surfers Paradise. From fries to burgers, onion rings to mac and cheese balls, vegans can finally get a tasty cheat meal fix whilst the meat-eaters amongst us won’t believe they’re not chomping into a juicy beef patty…

GRASSFED | SOUTH BRISBANE

When it comes to the humble burger, some may say that it isn’t possible to go meat free. But Grassfed says, why not?

With a small but mighty menu, Grassfed will leave you licking your fingers like any other burg, and completely perplexed that your cheeseburger is 100% vegan. Want to have your mind totally blown? Order a shake and see how good soy can really taste.

SALT MEATS CHEESE | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

Who doesn’t love pizza? Sorry, silly question, we know. Salt Meats Cheese understands that if you’re vegan or non-vegan, everyone loves this carby delight, which is why you can turn any of their vegetarian pizzas vegan with dairy-free cheese! Still gooey, still melty, still delicious–it’s a no brainer.

YOU CAME AGAIN | WEST END

Yes, we sure did.

This dedicated vegan tapas bar is cause for celebration, serving plant based share plates and shaking cocktails till the cows come home. The menu is simple but creative and has nods to Japanese flavours like the miso-good glazed eggplant and agedashi tofu. Add a margarita or two, and you’ll definitely have us coming back again and again.

NETHERWORLD | FORTITUDE VALLEY

The Valley’s beloved arcade bar is more than just an adult’s playground. It also happens to house the epic Hellmouth Diner–an eatery that has all the vegan eats you could ask for.

From vegan fried chicken burgers to crumbed cauliflower drumettes and vegan garlic bread meatball subs, you don’t have to commit any deadly sins to have food this tasty…

DICKI’S | NEW FARM

If we’re talking vegan restaurants we’d be having a laugh if we didn’t include New Farm institution Dicki’s. Converting carnivores to the green side and showing Brisbane how tasty and delicious vegan fare can really be, this foodie haven doesn’t let a little thing like being meat-free stop them from serving hefty breakfast burritos, tasty waffles, pastas, burgers, and more.

LADY MARMALADE | STONES CORNER

Taking it to the ‘burbs, one of Stones Corner’s best is serving up some of the best vegan breakfasts and lunches around town. Lose your mind over the loaded potato wedges with miso glaze, vegan cheese sauce, truffle mushrooms, fried shallots, pepitas, and roasted almonds, or the shiitake mushroom congee with silken tofu. Bring your non-vegan friends along for the ride and they won’t be disappointed by the meaty dishes either!

GROWN | WEST END

Grown is West End’s original plant-based cafe, serving all things yummy, creative and sustainable. Brunch will see you salivating over tempeh toasties and scrambled silken tofu before rolling over to dinner options like mushroom dumplings with beetroot broth, and house-made gnocchi with black tea and French lentils. Top it off with a tipple from the carefully selected vegan-friendly wine and beer offerings, and you’ve found your new fav spot.

CHARLIE’S RAW SQUEEZE | VARIOUS LOCATIONS

If it’s healthy and sustainable vegan #fitspo you’re looking for, then you’ll be well acquainted with Charlie’s Raw Squeeze by now. 100% plant-based, this healthy juice bar is serving up classic breakies like smashed avo and squeeze bowls that will have you singing from the inside out. Keep the sweet tooth satisfied with their range of raw treats and nice-cream, because if it’s vegan it’s healthy, right?

See? Who said vegan food couldn’t be damn delicious.
