Brisbane’s best takes on avo toast

Attention all avo toast connoisseurs!

A staple of any cafe menu, avo on toast never fails to hit the spot. The beauty of this beloved brunch item is its versatility–there are absolutely no rules when it comes to an avo toast, and in our eyes, the more creative the better!

Luckily for us Brisbanites, our city is home to some of the most delicious takes on avo toast. Whether you like to keep it classic or get spicy with it, we’re here to give you the round-up of the best of the best when it comes to avo toast in Brisbane.

NYC Bagel Deli | West End and Chermside

Remember when avo roses were all the rage? The trend may have passed, but this avocado rose with crumbled feta, dukkah, and lime juice on your choice of perfect bagel is a simple but satisfying option that lets the avo do all the talking!

Smoked Paprika | Bardon

Boasting an eclectic menu of dishes bursting with flavour, your taste buds are guaranteed to be taken on a delicious adventure at Smoked Paprika. The Bardon cafe is home to one of our favourite takes on avocado toast, offering up whipped Persian feta on quinoa sourdough with avocado, lemon and house spice mix. Healthy and delicious? Winning.

Mylk and Ko | New Farm

Mylk and Ko is a haven for health nuts, known for their insane acai bowls and protein-packed smoothies. But if you’re yearning for some avo, opt for their Avo Great Day, which isn’t your average avo toast. We love their fresh and fruity take on the classic, featuring toasted ciabatta, sliced avocado, house dill cucumber labneh, peach salsa, tofu, candied walnuts and mixed leaves.

My Mistress | Clayfield

My Mistress is a celebrity of the Brisbane brunch scene, and we can see why. Nestled in a nook off Sandgate Road, they are dishing up some seriously scrumptious eats and top-notch coffee. We can’t go past their One Night Stand, featuring a toasted bagel with smoked bacon, smashed avocado, poached eggs, tomato and red onion salsa topped with balsamic glaze. That’s our kind of breaky affair!

Deedot Coffee House | Holland Park West

Cult favourite Deedot Coffee house never fails to deliver the ultimate feed, and their Stacks On sounds like the perfect hangover cure with smashed avo, smokehouse bacon, poached eggs and halloumi on toasted Turkish bread with blistered cherry tomatoes and a balsamic reduction. Whether you’re in recovery mode or feeling fresh, this is bound to hit the spot.

The Gunshop Cafe | West End

If we’re talking about getting creative with avo toast, we can’t leave The Gunshop Cafe off the list. They’re not afraid to throw some unexpected items into the mix, serving up smashed avocado with deli rye, strawberries, asparagus, Persian feta, mint, basil and raspberry balsamic glaze. This sounds like a party for our mouths, and we’re very much here for it.

NAÏM | Paddington

We’re suckers for some Middle Eastern flavours, and NAÏM nails it. The much-loved Paddington breakfast joint is offering up smashed avocado on Turkish bread with dukkah, Persian feta, pomegranate gel and poached eggs. Pair it with a cheeky brunch cocktail and you’ve got the ultimate brekky…

Piggy Back Cafe | Jindalee

Go above and beyond your average avo toast at Piggy Back Cafe. Their breakfast croissant has our mouths watering—a toasted croissant filled with your choice of bacon or halloumi along with a fried egg, Swiss cheese, fresh spinach, tangy semi-dried tomato pesto and, of course, chunky avo.

Industry Beans | Newstead

As a star of the Brisbane breakfast scene, you’d expect nothing less than an awesome avo toast dish from Industry Beans. Alongside some of the best coffee in town, your avo comes with whipped ricotta, lime gel, beetroot dust and green tea sea salt on sourdough. She’s a work of art!

Tutto Caffe Espresso Bar | Ashgrove

Tutto is well known among Ashgrovians for their hearty, home-cooked feeds. You’ll be spoiled for choice by their huge menu, but if you’re after an avo dish, look no further than one of their tasty breakfast stacks. We love the sound of the pork and halloumi stack with avocado, arugula, caramelized onion and mixed herbs.

Good Folk Cafe | Bardon

At this cosy Bardon spot, you’ll find suburban speciality coffee and a rustic brunch menu. The cafe has a community feel, focussing on preparing food from scratch using locally sourced and garden-grown ingredients. They keep their avo toast simple yet flavoursome with smashed avo, Persian feta, savoury dukkah crumb and pickled red onions.

Kith and Chow | Mt Gravatt

Famous for their insane brunch platters, Kith ‘n’ Chow is a go-to southside breakfast destination. Their extensive menu has something for everyone, and avocado enthusiasts are in for a treat with their beetroot and avo dish, featuring two slices of sourdough topped with beetroot hummus, fresh avocado, toasted almonds, roasted pepita and sunflower seeds, crumbled feta and sumac.

So, do you like your avo toast au naturale, or totally pimped out?
